About Cook Islands

It is rather a haul to get there if you are travelling from the United Kingdom, but it is well worth the journey. There are two of the Cook Islands, Rarotonga and Aitutaki, that the majority of tourists visit. Both of these locations are absolutely stunning; everything that you would expect from a Pacific island destination. You will also find a wide array of accommodation options on these islands; from basic beach hut style all the way up to luxurious five star hotels. This means that no matter what your budget is you should have absolutely no problem finding somewhere to suit your requirements. When you are booking your flights it is advisable to make the reservation for your hotel too, as there is only a limited amount of accommodation on the islands. The last thing that you want is to have a flight to a destination where you cannot find anywhere to stay! There is a wide variety of Cook Islands tours that include not only flights and hotel but also day trips around your island of choice and other enjoyable activities.

The legal tender on the Cook Islands is the New Zealand Dollar, although they do also have their own currency. There is a scattering of ATMs on Rarotonga and Aitutaki but absolutely none on the others. So it is advisable to take most of your cash with you. The majority of the hotels will have in room safes, so you will not have a need to carry around large sums of money with you all the time. Most things that you purchase on the islands are quite reasonable and certainly substantially cheaper than the nearby Tahiti. This will, however, no doubt start to change as time goes by and the islands become a more well known and accessible tourist destination; so now is the time to take advantage. The main attraction of going on a Cook Islands holiday is obviously the white sandy beaches and the stunning turquoise ocean. However, there are some other activities that are well worth exploring if you fancy a day off the beach. There are some amazing lagoons dotted around the various islands and they are excellent for snorkelling or diving. These tours can be arranged extremely easily and are thoroughly enjoyable. If you are staying on Rarotonga then you really should try out the Cook’s Island bus tour, this is a great way to get your bearings and see the island. The best part about the Cook Islands is that you can visit them whenever you like; there is literally no ‘off season’ the climate stays absolutely perfect all year round, so you do not have to worry about travelling all that way and then enduring heavy rain for your entire stay. This is, perhaps, one of the reasons that all the residents are so happy and friendly. The welcoming locals, the amazing seafood, stunning beaches and faultless climate make this the perfect holiday destination for any traveller.
