About
Eilat
The Israeli city is located at the tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, which also shares its waters with other popular tourist destinations such as
Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. There is an international airport (Ovda) near Eilat, so long commutes are not necessary. While Eilat is approximately 325 km from Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem, there are plenty of opportunities to take a day trip to the historic town. Eilat borders the Red Sea in the Negev Desert region and, as with most of Israel, has a rich history that can be traced back to biblical times, where Eilat is mentioned. Tourism has boomed in the region, with plenty of luxury hotels and spas to choose from during your stay. As tourism has grown in the region, the city has developed and now houses an IMAX cinema, theme park and even an ice park - a newly-opened snow-based attraction. There is plenty to do during an Eilat holiday, and with the resort being a beach destination there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. The Eilat History Museum is a great way to learn about the region as the museum traces the history of the region and houses a number of important archaeological items found in the area.
With the Negev Desert stretching out from Eilat, there is also a number of desert-based activities to try during your holiday including camel riding and Bedouin (nomadic desert people) tribe experiences. If you would prefer to stay nearer to the beach then there is the Dolphin Reef - a marine biology centre where you will be able to learn about, and swim with, dolphins. Coral Beach Nature Reserve also borders the sea and looks to preserve and highlight the wonderful coral reef that the area accommodates. There is also a range of businesses in the area that offer windsurfing and water sport lessons as well as equipment hire. Diving and snorkelling are must-try activities as you will be introduced to a world of colourful and vibrant fish and coral - in this way you will be able to fill your holiday with relaxing beach days and beach-based activities. Kings City theme park is a bible-themed attraction with activities such as the Cave of Illusions and Wisdom and the Journey to the Past. The theme park looks to celebrate the history of the region and the important part it played in the biblical times. An Eilat holiday would not be complete without sampling some of the region’s famous nightlife. The North Beach area plays host to a number of pubs, bars and nightclubs as well as a host of different restaurants. Most tourists will head to this region once the sun goes down to sample some tasty food and party into the night.
There really is no bad time to go to Eilat as the city is always hot and it rarely rains - the perfect climate for holidaymakers and those looking to relax in the sun during their holiday. Israel in general has two main seasons: winter (which runs from October to March) and summer (running from April to October). The summer months in Eilat can get very hot, with highs of 40 degrees C, although an average temperature of around 30 to 35 degrees C is more likely. If that is a little too hot for you then a holiday during the winter months may be far more bearable as the temperature tends to peak at around 22 degrees C, averaging around 20 degrees C on a normal day. While Israel tends to see a lot more rain during the winter months, this is not applicable to Eilat as it rarely sees rainfall. An Eilat holiday combines fun attractions, beautiful desert surroundings and pleasant beach weather to give an all-round perfect holiday. The vibrant nightlife and rich history further add to the destination’s charm and there is sure to be something for everyone at this seaside holiday resort.
