About Fiji

Although the country is actually made up of 332 different islands, only 110 are inhabited, as many are extremely small. All of the Fijian Islands are made up of volcanic mountains and stunning turquoise warm tropical waters. It is these endearing qualities that lure in tourists from across the globe in their thousands. Although, for many travellers it is quite a daunting journey, anyone who chooses to make it is rarely disappointed when they arrive. The white sandy beaches, delightful climate and high quality hotels make it a near perfect holiday destination. Fiji can be rather an expensive destination to get to because of the length of flights and the large increase in airport taxes over the last few years, so if you are looking to obtain the lowest prices possible it is a good idea to make your flight reservations as early as you possibly can. This is absolutely paramount if you are looking to travel at popular times such as Christmas, Easter or the school summer holidays, as these dates are much busier than any other during the course of the year.

Obviously, the draw of this location is the amazing beaches and stunning scenery. Most travellers take a Fiji holiday to relax and get away from the stresses and strains of daily life and therefore they are happy to sip a cocktail by the pool or take a dip in the warm tropical ocean. If you do feel like doing something a little more adventurous though, there are plenty of Fiji tours that you and your family can experience. There are a number of different day cruises that you can take around the islands and most will include a beach barbeque and some optional snorkelling. These trips are a fantastic way to see the islands and if you are lucky you may even spot some whales. Nadi, or the Sugar City as it is also known, has the main airport that supplies Fiji. The city has plenty to offer you and is the perfect half day tour if you want to take in a little bit of the local culture. If you have time take a look at the sugar mill, it is the largest in the southern hemisphere and quite an impressive sight. The climate in Fiji is quite pleasant all year round, as it is in most of the South Pacific. Between the months of March and November is the ideal time to travel to Fiji, as you will normally find the temperatures between 26 and 30 degrees C and the humidity is a lot lower than other times of the year. During these months there is a lovely breeze coming off the ocean and this will make for absolutely perfect sunbathing or sightseeing. You may find that the flights and the hotels are substantially cheaper between November and March but there is good reason for this. These are the wettest months of the year in Fiji and it is also the time when you are most likely to experience a cyclone or a hurricane. So if you can avoid these travel dates it is advisable, and if you cannot be sure, check the weather forecasts before you travel.
