About Moorea

Moorea is too small to have any actual cities but there are a few small towns that are extremely quaint and laid back. A Moorea holiday is the ultimate getaway from reality and the stresses and strains of the rat race; it really is like taking a step back in time. The island enjoys a similar climate and possesses the similar picturesque scenery to Tahiti but it is a substantially cheaper destination to visit. The accommodation and the overall cost of living on this small island are a fraction of what they are on the much more commercialized Tahiti. To get to Moorea you will need to fly into Tahiti first and then either get a connecting plane across to the smaller island or travel by boat. Obviously, the latter takes a lot longer and after the lengthy journey to Tahiti you may just want to get to your final destination as quickly as possible. Small propeller-powered planes run almost like a bus service and can be caught every 30 minutes from Papeete international airport. If you are planning on doing a little island hopping then it is usually better value to purchase an air pass that will provide you with flights between the various different islands in this area. As you would expect from any South Pacific destination Moorea is famous for its beautiful white sandy beaches and relaxed way of life. This is the reason that it attracts so many different tourists every year.

There is a wide array of different hotel and guest house options at this location so you should have absolutely no problem finding something to suit your requirements. There are a number of delightful rustic styled budget accommodation options for those who are looking to get back to basics. However, you will also be able to find a number of luxurious hotels if you and your family are looking to spoil yourself with high class food, spa treatments and four poster beds. Obviously, the main factor that lures in tourists year after year to this location is the beautiful beaches and stunning scenery. Most travellers come here to simply enjoy the cuisine and relax. If you do, however, fancy a day off the beach or away from your resorts there are a number of Moorea tours that you can book. The oceans around the island are packed with marine life, so there are a variety of different boat trips that you and your family can take to make a great day trip. One of the most popular of these is the shark and stingray feeding trip. This amazing boat trip will allow you to get up close and personal with these wild creatures and if you are lucky you may even spot one of the fastest moving fish in the ocean, the barracuda. There are also a number of snorkelling tours that can be taken from various points on the island so if snorkelling is your passion, or you have never tried it before and fancy giving it a go, speak to your hotel receptionist or concierge and arrange a day trip. If the ocean is not your thing then why not hire a vehicle and take a leisurely drive around the island. This gives you the opportunity to take in all of the sights that are on offer at your own pace. One of the highlights is the Belvedere lookout point. This location has arguably the best views in Moorea and is perfect for those memorable photo opportunities. The majority of French Polynesia can be classed as tropical and Moorea is no different; so there are two basic seasons, wet and dry. The wet or off season is between November and April, it will not rain all the time but you will experience extremely humid conditions and heavy down pours. In the high season, from May through to October, the weather is much drier and not as humid. This is an ideal time for anyone looking for a relaxing beach break!
