Ngorongoro Conservation Area

As far as incredible wildlife spotting destinations go, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in northern Tanzania is hard to beat. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater has the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa with both predator and prey roaming the plains – this is a place where you can spot lion cubs playing, herds of zebra and wildebeest grazing and even catch sight of a rare black rhino. Within the crater itself, you’re limited to game drives but beyond the slopes you can walk along the rim for stunning vistas of the crater floor below, see long-legged pink flamingos fringing the shores of the alkaline Lake Magadi, come across Maasai tribesman grazing their cattle and visit Oldupai Gorge where prehistoric footprints of the world’s earliest hominids were found.
