Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival into Yogyakarta and Transfer Magelang

Fly into Yogyakarta Airport where you’ll be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel in the mountainous region of Magelang. Arrive at your hotel, the boutique Plataran Borobudur located just five minutes from the iconic Borobudur Temple, and check into your room complete with private garden and views of the Menoreh Hills.

Day 2

Borobudur Sunrise and Dokar Ride

Be collected early and driven to Borobudur Temple in time to watch the sunrise. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this iconic compound formed of six square and three round terraces, is the largest single Buddhist monument in the world.

You’ll have plenty of time to explore before heading to the peaceful village of Candirejo; part of your journey will be by traditional dokar (horse-drawn buggy) – or by bicycle for those who prefer to get about on two wheels! Surrounded by plantations you’ll have the chance to learn about local harvesting practices before ending the morning with a lesson in Indonesian Gamelan music followed by lunch.

Day 3

Cultural City Tour

Depart your hotel for a city tour of Yogyakarta (pronounced ‘Jogjakarta’), taking in the history and culture of the area. Drive through paddy fields and local villages before stopping to witness the process of kris (or keris) making; a traditional Indonesia dagger forged from nickel and iron.

Head into the centre of Yogyakarta and visit the Sultan’s Palace with its ornate reception halls, open-air pendopos and mid-18th century royal pleasure park. Your final stop of the day is the city district of Kota Gede where you’ll witness the ancient skill of silver crafting. Following the tour, transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.

Day 4

Prambanan Temple Tour

Sleep in this morning, waking for a leisurely breakfast before being picked up in the late afternoon for an evening of culture at Prambanan Temple. Spend time exploring this 10th century complex featuring shrines dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Siwa.

Be treated to a performance of Javanese dance, drama, music and costume as the ballet dancers tell a legendary love story narrated by a storyteller. A buffet dinner follows the conclusion of the performance.

Day 5

Kertosono – Malang

Board the train at Jogjakarta Railway Station and travel east through the countryside arriving at Kertosono Station where you’ll be met and taken to the town of Kediri for lunch. Continue to the colonial-era city of Malang, stopping on the way to take pictures of the stunning Javanese scenery. Check into the Tugu Malang and settle into your room with private balcony and handcrafted bathtub.

Day 6

Bromo Sunrise Trekking

Wake before dawn and travel by private jeep to the rim of Mount Penanjakan in time to see the sun rise over Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru. Make your descent and cross the Sand Sea to the base of Mount Bromo before climbing the 250 steps of the rim of the crater – the incredible views are worth the effort!

After freshening up and sitting down to a well-deserved breakfast, transfer to Surabaya Airport in time for your onward flight to Lombok. Continue driving north for an overnight stay at the Tugu Lombok before your journey to Gili Meno tomorrow.

Day 7

Arrive at Gili Meno

Following check out you’ll be collected and transferred to your hotel on the island of Gili Meno. Settle into your One Bedroom Sea Tent at Karma Reef complete with air conditioning, boutique kitchenette and unbelievable ocean views. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure – lounge on your personal sun bed beneath the shade of an umbrella or take to the water and go sea kayaking.

Day 8

Snorkelling Activity

Surrounded by shallow clear waters teeming with colourful corals and tropical fish, the Gili Islands are one of Lombok’s best snorkelling spots. Head out on a snorkelling excursion for a chance to explore this underwater world. Return to Karma Reef for wood fire pizzas and lobster at the resort’s on site restaurant or opt for a private dining experience with a candlelit dinner.

Day 9

Gili Meno – Day at Leisure

Get in some serious rest and relaxation at Gili Meno, a five star resort that exudes barefoot luxury. Sitting right on powder-soft white sands and facing crystal clear waters, this is the place to do as much or as little as you like. Lounge on hammocks on the beach, indulge in spa treatments (only ethically sourced, sustainable ingredients are used) and sip cocktails while listening to chilled out DJ tunes at the beach bar.

Day 10

Tetebatu Village and Waterfall Expedition

Nestled within rice paddies and tobacco fields is the peaceful village of Tetebatu. Trek from the village to the 30-metre high Jeruk Manis Waterfall, set within Mount Rinjani National Park. Swim in the bracingly cold natural pond or sun yourself on the large stones before returning to the village. Carry on to your hotel, the Tugu Lombok, on the north west coast of the island.

Day 11

Lombok – Day at Leisure

Start the morning listening to bird song from your private patio. The day is free to be spent as you wish, be it relaxing on the private beach or beside the hotel’s swimming pool, taking an Indonesian cooking class or indulging in treatments at the open-air Hening Swarga Spa.

Day 12

Tour through Lombok’s Countryside

Discover an insight into Lombok’s diverse culture and traditional way of life on a relaxing tour through the countryside. Pick up unique souvenirs for family and friends at the villages of Karang Bayan (known for its rattan and palm baskets) and Nyiur Baya (where handicrafts are made). There will also be time to visit the oldest mosque on the island and a 16th century Balinese temple.
