This 9 night itinerary takes you from Thailand’s capital through the Malay countryside to the city-state of Singapore. Start the journey with three nights in Bangkok, an amalgamation of old and new, before boarding the luxury Eastern & Oriental Express. Look forward to pristine service, gleaming carriages and gourmet dining as you look out from the Observation Car at the countryside, watching traditional Thai and Malay ways of life pass you by. End your journey with three nights in Singapore, visiting vertical gardens and dining on chilli crab.

Day 1

Arrival into Bangkok

Touch down into Bangkok, where you’ll be met and transferred to the Oriental Residence Bangkok, your home for the next three nights. Spend the rest of the day, taking things at your own pace, exploring the city and taking an evening stroll through China Town.

Day 2


Today, tear yourself away from the comforts of your hotel and go sightseeing. Make your way to the Rattankosin District and tour the Royal Palace; built in 1782 it served as the home of the Thai royal family until the end of the 19th century. Once finished, take the time to visit Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Po, two of the cities temples.

Day 3


On your last full day in Bangkok, give weary feet a rest and take a boat ride to explore the fascinating klongs (canals) that branch off the Chao Phraya River, which meanders through the city. These canals have earned Bangkok the nickname, ‘Venice of the East’. This evening, be enveloped by the sights, smells and tastes of the city’s 24 hour street food stalls; treat taste buds to the combinations of spicy, sour, sweet and salty that Thai food is famous for.

Day 4

Bangkok - Kanchanaburi

Make the most of your late check out with a relaxed, leisurely breakfast before doing a little last-minute shopping for souvenirs, handicrafts and silks at the boutiques and local markets – haggling is a must!

In the afternoon, be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the train station to board the Eastern & Oriental Express. Settle into your private cabin as the train leave Bangkok behind and makes its way out into the countryside. Dinner is served in the Restaurant Car and you have the chance to meet your fellow passengers over drinks in the Bar Car before retiring for the evening.

Day 5


After a breakfast of pastries, fruit and tea and coffee in your private cabin, disembark at the River Kwai Bridge station in Kanchanaburi province. Spend the first part of the morning on a leisurely cruise along the river, passing under the famous bridge. Late morning, visit a local war museum and war cemetery (optional). Return to the train in the afternoon; look out on the countryside and the way of traditional Thai life from the Observation Car and dine on gourmet cuisine for lunch and dinner.

Day 6

Kuala Kangsa

Watch the scenery change as you travel from Thailand and through Malaysia from your cabin window while eating a relaxing breakfast in bed. Arrive at Kuala Kangsar in the early afternoon and disembark for a tour of the Ubudiah Mosque, Royal Museum of Perak and the Sultan Shah Gallery. Back on board, sip cocktails to the sounds of live piano music and sit down for a sumptuous final dinner.

Day 7

Arrival into Singapore

Pull into Singapore Rail Station and transfer to the opulent Mandarin Oriental Singapore for a three night stay on this island city-state. Settle into your hotel before heading out to explore the melting pot of cultures that make up Singapore: wander through Little India and Chinatown, visiting the local markets and temples.

In the evening, sit down to try the island’s most famous, dish: chilli crab. Stir fried crab is coated in a sweet, savoury and tomato-y based sauce and served with steamed or deep fried mantous or buns. Pair this popular dish with a signature Singapore Sling cocktail.

Day 8


Spend the day, seeing the green side of Singapore. Head to the Botanical Gardens for a leisurely stroll – we recommend taking time to visit the National Orchard Garden where over 20,000 over these plants are housed.

In the afternoon, make your way to the river for a visit of the ‘Garden by the Bay’. This 101 hectare horticultural project sits on Marina Bay Sands and features the impressive and futuristic ‘super tree’ structures that are vertical gardens.

Day 9


For your final full day in Singapore take the cable car (or walk, or drive or catch the monorail!) to the fun-filled Sentosa Island. Walk through glass tunnels at the S.E.A Aquarium, home to over 100,000 marine animals or get your thrills and spills at one of the island’s waterparks or theme parks, including Universal Studios Singapore. For something a little more leisurely, relax on the sands of one of three beaches: Palawan, Siloso and Tanjong.

Singapore - UK

Check out of your hotel and transfer to Changi International Airport in time for your return flight back to the UK.
