Itinerary

Day 1

UK to Boston

Compact, walkable, scenic and historic, Boston offers an easy introduction to your holiday in the USA.  Take a cab to your downtown hotel and enjoy your first evening exploring the bars and restaurants of the downtown area.

Day 2

Boston

Discover the city via a selection of its diverse breweries and brew pubs, all the while letting someone else do the driving.  There are some great tours to join so book yourself onto one, or if you prefer you can just jump in a taxi.  At each place taste a selection of the house beers and chat to the people that have set up and run these urban hubs.

Day 3

Boston

Day 4

Boston to Bar Harbor

Collect your car and head north, following the coast past fishing towns and inlets. Enjoy the scenery as the towns get smaller and sparser before you arrive at Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park and the picturesque town of Bar Harbor. Visit Bar Harbor Brewing Co. in the heart of this delightful coastal town. 

Day 5

Acadia National Park

Make a foray into the stunning Acadia National Park, a densely forested wilderness where rivers and historic coaching trails offer ample opportunity for hiking and the rocky peaks provide fantastic views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean. During the summer you can visit Atlantic Brewing Company where a 10 acre farm demonstrates small scale brewing, offers homemade beers and hearty food at Mainely Meat BBQ.

Day 6

Bar Harbor to Burlington

Departing Bar Harbor head west through the Maine interior and cross into the mountain state of Vermont.  Break your journey with a detour into the White Mountain National Forest where there are plenty of short walks for you to stretch your legs and enjoy the remote scenery.  Continuing your journey make a stop to pick up a taster at The Alchemist, in Waterbury.  This family run brewery specialises in just one, fresh hopped double IPA.

Day 7

Burlington

On the shores of Lake Champlain and with the Green Mountains as a backdrop, Burlington is the largest town in Vermont.  Here bustling markets and sophisticated restaurants go hand-in-hand with a relaxed pace of life and scenic vistas.  Visit the Magic Hat Brewery where surreal art and performance creates a unique setting in which to enjoy a drink.

Day 8

Burlington to New Haven

Today’s drive takes you due south, zipping through the states to Connecticut on New England’s southern coast.  Here a rich maritime heritage and famous Yale University continue to draw the wealthy from New York and Boston.  Take a trip to Overshores Brewing where they specialise exclusively in Belgian beer styles.

Day 9

New Haven

Discover the scenery and architecture of downtown New Haven and take the chance to pick up some souvenirs to take home.  New Haven has an array of shops to suit all budgets as well as fantastic museums and attractions.  Check out the summer events list as festivals and markets are a regular occurrence during the warmer months.

Day 10

New Haven to Nantucket

Follow the coast road east and onto the beautiful Cape Cod.  From the town of Hyannis you can catch a ferry to the island of Nantucket, an agricultural paradise located just an hour’s boat ride away.

Day 11

Nantucket

On this beautiful island a unique business has taken shape.  At the Cisco Brewers you will discover a vineyard, brewery and distillery all in one place.  Intriguing tours take you through the development of the business, finishing with a selection of tastings from the 3 arms of the company.  In the evening take a cab to a coastal restaurant and enjoy the balmy sunset.

Day 12

Nantucket to Boston

Catch the ferry back over to Cape Cod and enjoy the journey back into Boston.  If you have time, drive the length of the cape to Provincetown from where you can catch the ferry back to the city to drop your car at the airport ahead of your flight home.
