Things To Do In Koh Samui
Koh Samui is famous for its beautiful, coconut palm-lined beaches. The east coast is the most popular destination, namely Chaweng Beach with its well developed resort area. Further south, Lamai beach tends to be quieter. For a more peaceful escape the northern coast has three fine beaches; Big Buddha, Bo Phut and Maenam, alongside the smaller yet gorgeous and less crowded beaches of Chong Mon and Bang Por.
Ang Thong National Marine Park
Take a day trip to these stunning islands, said to have inspired the book and later the movie 'The Beach'. 30km west of Koh Samui this stunning park, teeming with wildlife, is made up of 42 small islands with limestone cliffs, beautiful beaches, hidden caves and lagoons, waterfalls and lakes.
The Big Buddha is probably Koh Samui's most famous attraction and usually the first thing you see as you fly into the island. Standing 12 metres high, the towering golden statue, known as Wat Phra Yai, is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Go early to witness the daily offerings of fruit and flowers.
Diving and Snorkelling
For diving enthusiasts, a Koh Samui holiday offers a range of excellent diving sites and various diving shops across the island, the sister islands of Koh Tan and, of course, Koh Tao. Snorkelling and wave-diving are also popular on Koh Samui.
