Visit Ras Al Khaimah for sun-filled days, varied landscapes and a rich culture.

Ras Al Khaimah, the UAE’s northernmost state, may be lesser-known than its ‘big name’ neighbours, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but it still packs a punch with its luxury resorts, pristine beaches, year-round sunshine and adventure opportunities. Less than an hour from Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah (nicknamed RAK) is surrounded by the rugged Hajar Mountains and borders the Arabian desert – perfect for dune bashing in a 4X4 or spending a night under the stars. Experience the culture of the UAE state, haggling at the traditional souk and fish markets in RAK City, sun yourself on one of the coastline’s stunning beaches or simply lounge by the pool at a five star resort. The choice is yours!

Travel Tips & Advice for Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah Activities

Activities in Ras Al Khaimah are all about heading to the hills, taking to the water or escaping to the desert. Hike up the country’s highest mountain Jabal Al Jais – standing at 1900 metres or make the most of the lengthy coastline, with a wide range of watersports from jet skiing to wake boarding. Or, get that rush of adrenaline as you go dune bashing over the red sands in the Arabian Desert.
Ras Al Khaimah Food & Drink

Like the rest of the UAE, cuisine in Ras Al Khaimah is influenced by the flavours and dishes of the wider Middle Eastern region. Expect roasted meats served with vegetables – a traditional Emirati dish is ghuzi, roasted lamb topped with nuts and served with rice – and mezze-style dishes from falafel to hummus. Alcohol is served to tourists, but typically only in hotel restaurants and bars. More popular among locals is a strong black coffee and ayran, a cold yogurt drink.
Ras Al Khaimah Attractions

Soak up the sites of RAK from historic fortresses to traditional mosques. Climb the zig zagging stairs to the hilltop fortress of Dhayah Fort, the site of a battle between British troops and local tribes in the early 1800s. Walk the dusty streets of Al Jazirah Al Hamra, a perfectly preserved town abandoned in the 1960s and rumoured to be haunted by ghosts. Visit the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah and learn about the history of the region and step inside the cooling walls of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque (not to be confused with the better-known mosque of the same name in Abu Dhabi!)
