Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival and off to Dambulla

Arrival and transfer to Dambulla

Depart the UK on your chosen airline and check into your selected hotel in Dambulla for the night. 

Day 2 - Ancient monuments of Anuradhapura

Dambulla / Anuradhapura / Mihintale / Dambulla

Depart for Anuradhapura for a city tour of the ancient ruins and the Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest tree on earth. These ruins have the largest amount of ancient monuments of a great civilisation and is believed to be the home of Buddhism. Admire the Ruwanveli Seya Dagoba with its famous elephant wall from the 2nd Century BC and the Thuparama Dagoba from the 3rd Century BC. In the afternoon, visit Mihintale before returning to your hotel in Dambulla for the night.

Day 3 - Sigiriya Rock Fortress & Polonnaruwa.

Dambulla / Polonnaruwa / Dambulla

Visit the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Frescoes, Asia's best preserved city of the first millennium. Soaring 200 metres above a forested plain, this ancient fortress dates back to the 5th century and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incredible feat of constructive engineering. 

In the afternoon, visit the Walled City of Polonnaruwa, the second most ancient kingdom in Sri Lanka and another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ruins monasteries, temples, bathing pools & buddhist statues all set in a forested Park surrounded by moats. Overnight at your hotel in Sigiriya.

Day 4 - Cave Temples and the sacred tooth.

Dambulla / Kandy

Enjoy a morning visit to the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, filled with astonishing statues and paintings. Continue onwards and visit a spice garden and a batik factory before reaching Kandy in time for lunch. Kandy is the Hill Capital City and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings dating back to the 6th Century BC. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its centre, it's known for its handicraft industry. In the evening, watch a Kandyan dance and cultural show and visit the famous Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). Overnight at your hotel in Kandy.

Day 5 - Pinnawala Elephant Orphange

Visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the best place for an up close and personal experience with the world’s largest land mammals. With over 70 resident elephants, Pinnawala has become the home to the largest protected group of elephants in the world. After lunch, commence a city tour of Kandy, visiting the city's famous market, Kandy upper lake drive, a gem museum and arts & crafts centre. Overnight at your hotel in Kandy

Day 6 - Botanical Gardens and Little England

Kandy / Nuwara Eliya

Enjoy a morning visit to the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Continue onwards to Nuwara-Eliya, visiting a high-grown tea plantation and factory along the way. In the late afternoon, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Nuwara-Eliya, a mountain station at 1,868 metres in altitude. The city is particularly well-kept and the design of the locality exudes an air of “colonial British style". Nuwara Eliya was built during the 19th century and its architecture mimics that of an English country town with red-brick walls and mock-Tudor Mansions. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Day 7 - Wildlife and Jeep Safari

Nuwara Eliya / Yala National Park

Depart early morning for a trip to Yala National Park via the famous Ella Falls. In the late afternoon, head off on a jeep safari in Yala National Park, the second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife, including 44 mammals and one of the largest leopard populations in the world. Overnight at the hotel in Yala.

Day 8 - Historic coastal city of Galle

Yala National Park / Galle / Airport

Explore the historic coastal city of Galle, stopping off to visit the stilt fishermen in Weligama along the way. After lunch in Galle, end off your holiday with a tour of the Galle Fort. This is where your tour concludes. We suggest extending your holiday by booking a relaxing beach resort in Sri Lanka or the Maldives - or stopping over in Dubai or Oman before your flight back to the UK.
