Itinerary

Day 1

Hanoi

Arrival and welcome at Hanoi Airport before transferring to your hotel. The room is at your disposal from 2.00pm. Spend the rest of day settling into your hotel. Meals on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2

Hanoi

Head out on a full day tour of Vietnam’s capital city, including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the traditional stilt house and the revered One-Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards, visit Vietnam’s first university, the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, visit the Ethnology Museum where you can discover the diversity of Vietnam’s many ethnic groups. Return to the city centre to explore the diverse architecture of Hanoi, its famous 36 streets of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake with a walking tour. In the evening, you will enjoy a traditional water puppet show. Meals on your ow account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3

Hanoi - Halong Bay

Leave Hanoi this morning and head straight to Halong Bay, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site with 3,000 islands of towering limestone dotting the bay and Gulf of Tonkin. After arriving at noon, board a beautiful boat for an overnight cruise on Halong Bay with an excellent menu of fresh seafood. Lunch and dinner are served on boat. Overnight on board.

Day 4

Halong Bay – Hai Phong – Danang – Hoi An

Wake up early to enjoy the aquamarine water of the bay at its best. After a tea break, the boat continues to cruise quietly through the spectacular limestone formations of Halong Bay. Return to Halong harbour after brunch and transfer directly to Cat Bi Airport in Haiphong for your flight to Danang. If time permits, take a short orientation tour of the city, including Du Hang Pagoda and Hang Kenh Communal House. You will be welcomed by a local guide on arrival in Danang and transferred to your hotel in Hoi An for check in. Meals on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5

Hoi An

In the morning, cycle through the rural scenery of Hoi An to a small vegetable farm located on the banks of Tra Que Lagoon. Tra Que Village is known for its special aromatic herbs. Join the local people in their daily work of planting and watering vegetables and learn to cook some local specialities, for example “Tam Huu” – combining shrimps, pork and aromatic herbs. After lunch, return to Hoi An for a stroll around this town, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unusually well-preserved ancient streets and homes. Set out to explore the quaint cobblestone streets of the town with more than two-century-old Chinese houses. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Phung Hung Chinese-style trading house. Enjoy some free time where to visit the local markets or maybe have your own suit or clothing made. Dinner on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6

Hoi An - Danang

Spend the morning free at leisure until our departure to Hue via the scenic Hai Van Pass to enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas in Vietnam. Make a stop en-route to visit Cham museum in Danang city, home to the largest collection of sculptures and relics from the Cham civilization. Pass the quiet, white sandy beach of Lang Co along the way. After checking in your hotel in Hue, spend the rest of day at leisure. Meals on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7

Hue – Hue City

The morning is devoted to visiting the handicraft villages in Hue. Board a local boat and travel down the Perfume River to the village of Tien Non where you will cycle to the village of Thanh Tien. Located along the Perfume River, Thanh Tien is famous for its traditional handcraft production of paper flowers and dates back around four hundred years. You can observe the work and participate in the creation of flowers under the guidance of a craftsman. Afterwards, walk about 30 minutes to the Sinh village, well known for its wood paintings. Spend time learning more about this traditional handicraft before returning to the city centre in the early afternoon. Take a tour of the citadel city and visit the Imperial Citadel before exploring the famous Dong Ba Market. The evening is free to spend at your leisure. Meals on your own account. Day 8

Hue - Ho Chi Minh City

This morning, we will visit Tu Duc mausoleum, one of the most beautiful imperial tombs in Hue. Constructed from 1864-1867 and created 16 years before his death, the “tomb” served as a recreational area for the king. It is also an opportunity to learn about the history of the Nguyen dynasty and the French colonial invasion. Return to the city centre and visit a typical garden house of Hue city which was built according to precise rules of geomancy. We then leave ancient Hue City and take a brief 1 hour afternoon flight to Ho Chi Minh City - known as "Saigon" by locals. Welcome by local guide and transfer to your hotel for check in. Meals on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9

Cu Chi Tunnels - Ho Chi Minh City Sightseeing

After breakfast, depart to Cu Chi to explore the amazing tunnel network built by Vietnamese fighters during the Vietnam War with America. Return to the city late morning. After lunch, visit some historical landmarks, including the Old Saigon Post Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the ethnic Chinese district of Cho Lon, especially Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Pagoda. Meals on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10

Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta

Today, your driver will drive you from Saigon to the Cai Thia Canal in Cai Be District where you will start your excursion into the deep Mekong Delta area. Feel the daily rhythm of life by taking on local activities, such as taking a local ferry to cross small canals and rivers and cycling on small lanes, passing by local churches, local markets, a brick kiln and lush orchard gardens. Stop at a local house where you can sample seasonal fruit along with tea and honey and even local wine. In the late morning, take a boat trip to another local house for lunch. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely rowing boat trip along the small Cay Da canal and head to a local house where the whole family will spend the night. After settling into your home-stay, visit the host’s kitchen and help them to prepare some traditional dishes for dinner. Dinner and overnight at the local house.

Day 11

Mekong Delta - Can Tho

After breakfast at your home-stay, take a leisurely walk around the village to enjoy its the fresh and pleasant air. Say goodbye to your host and take a boat trip to a floating catfish farm. We will then continue our journey with a short bike ride to visit a local vegetable field. In the late morning, transfer by private vehicle to your hotel in Can Tho for check in. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. After a short rest, cycle through small roads of local villages and discover the lives of the locals by visiting a primary school, rice fields and a local house with a fruit orchard. The rest of day is free to spend at your leisure. Dinner on your own account. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 12

Cai Rang Floating Market - Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh City departure

Transfer to Ninh Kieu Quay where you will board a traditional local boat for a cruise to the lively, colorful floating markets of Cai Rang. You will be surprised by the huge variety of products sold at the market, from the well-known fruits like mangos and bananas, to the most exotic ones like mangosteens, star apples, or the sweetened longans and the very odorous durians. Enter the labyrinth of the channels and streams surrounding Can Tho and from the boat, you can observe resident daily life on the river. A private car picks us up in the late morning for a transfer directly back to Ho Chi Minh Airport for the departure flight. Meals on your own account. Tour ends.
