Day 1: Arrive in Bali


On arrival in Bali transfer to Ubud, up in the mountains. Check into your accommodation and relax by the pool, take in the cool mountain air and recover from your long flight.

Day 2-3: Explore Ubud

Explore Ubud

Enjoy two full days in Ubud, the cultural and spiritual heart of the island. There are plenty of activities on offer, you could take a trek through the terraced rice paddies and gain an understanding of rural life. Or, head to the sacred Monkey Forest where monkeys roam freely and have made their home at the Hindu temple. Or visit the markets where you can shop for locally produced craft from furniture to fashion.

Day 4: Yogyakarta and Prambanan Temples

Yogyakarta and Prambanan Temples

This morning after breakfast, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Ubud and transferred to the airport in Denpasar in time for your flight to Yogyakarta in Java. After clearing arrival formalities, you will be greeted by your guide set off on your sightseeing tour. For your first stop visit the 9th century Hindu temple compound of Prambanan. This impressive collection of temples is dedicated to the Trimurti, a concept of Hinduism where by Brahma is the Creator, Vishnu is the Preserver and Shiva is the Destroyer which is often referred to as the ‘Great Trinity’ or ‘Hindu Triad’. Identifiable by its towering and pointed architectural design, Prambanan was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1991 and is the largest, as well the finest, Hindu temple complex in the country. Also visit Ratu Boko archaeological site. This former royal palace is situated on a plateau 196 metres above sea level and is noted for its fine views of the temples at Prambanan (which are located just 3km away) and also Mount Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia. After your sightseeing, you'll transfer to Magelang for check in and overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Borobudur Sunrise and Candirejo Village

Borobudur Sunrise and Candirejo Village

Setting out before sunrise, to the stunning temple complex at Borobudur, one of South East Asia’s most impressive sites and the largest single Buddhist monument in the world. Receiving UNESCO World Heritage status in 1991, the monument consists of six square terraces topped by three circular ones. Two million stone blocks were required to build the temple and with at least 2,500 relief panels and more than 500 Buddha statues, it is exquisite beyond comparison and the highlight of any trip to Java. Ample time will be dedicated to exploring this incredible Buddhist structure before heading to Candirejo, a peaceful village surrounded by plantations and lush scenery where you can learn about harvesting and other local activities. Getting to the village is part of the fun as you traverse the attractive countryside by traditional Dokar (horse-drawn buggy). Alternatively, you may choose to ride your own bicycle to and from the village. This morning’s excursion ends with a lesson in Indonesian Gamelan music and lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to your accommodation to relax this afternoon.

Day 6: Yogyakarta City Tour

Yogyakarta City Tour

Begin the days tour with a visit to a traditional Kris-Maker. Listed by UNESCO as a “Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage of Humanity”, the Kris is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade patterning achieved through alternating lamination's of iron, which can take up to one month to forge a single piece. Kris have been produced in many regions of Indonesia for centuries, but nowhere is the Kris so embedded in ritual prescriptions, ceremonies, mythical backgrounds and epic poetry as in Central Java. Continue to the Kraton, the Sultan’s Palace of Yogyakarta, by cycle rickshaw, commonly known as “Becak”, The innermost group of buildings (where the sultan still resides) were built in 1755. Located within the grounds of the Kraton, the Taman Sari, often referred to by its Old Dutch name of Waterkasteel (Water Castle), was designed in the mid-18th century as a royal pleasure park for the first Sultanate of Yogyakarta and his entourage. Next head to Kota Gede. Famed for its silver crafting, there will be time to witness a demonstration of this ancient skill at a local workshop as well as delve into the backstreets of this historic neighbourhood where more craft showrooms and interesting buildings await. Later direct transfer to Yogyakarta airport to catch your flight to Bali. On arrival in Bali, you'll be met at the airport and transferred to your luxurious beachfront hotel in Canggu.

Day 7 - 9: Bali, Nusa Dua Beach

Bali, Nusa Dua Beach

On the golden sands of southern Bali, Nusa Dua is an exclusive beachside destination graced by calm, coral-protected waters and a collection of luxury hotels and resorts. Days here are all about sun, sand and sea with swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing the order of long, lazy afternoons. Craving a little culture?
