Travel Tips & Advice for Australasia

Australasia Activities

Activities in Australasia vary from country to country. In Australia and New Zealand, it’s about the adventure - snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and go diving or surfing off the coast of Australia. Or go white water rafting, bungee jumping or zip lining in New Zealand. Want to take it down a notch? Spend a day wine tasting – both countries are known for their fine wines – or soaking in the hot springs of the North Island. The islands of the South Pacific, such as Fiji and the Cook Islands, are much more laidback. Relax on beautiful beaches, go snorkelling in crystal-clear lagoons and visit authentic Polynesian villages.

Australasia Food & Drink

Australasia has a strong Polynesian influence that’s often reflected in its food. There's an abundance of fresh, locally sourced fruit and vegetables and as there’s an ocean-based lifestyle, many dishes contain seafood. With strong Maori influences, popular dishes to try include Hangi in New Zealand, Lovo in Fiji and Umukai in the Cook Islands which are authentic dishes slow-cooked in an underground oven. In Australia, kick back with an Aussie barbecue and a beer or dig into a tasty meat pie. Don’t forget to get a taste of the famous Kiwi fruit and Hokey Pokey ice cream Zealand is so famous for!

Australasia Attractions

The Great Barrier Reef, one of Australia’s most famous attractions, may be gone in just two decades so don't skip this world heritage site. Other Australian attractions include the Sydney Opera House, Ayers Rock, the Great Ocean Road and the Outback. In New Zealand, visit the film set of Hobbiton, used in the Lord of the Rings series, see the geyser-like landscapes of Rotarua, hike the Milford Sound and admire the Waitomo Caves lit up by glow worms. Fiji and the Cook Islands are known for their national parks and world-class snorkelling at the Great Astrolabe Reef and Aututaki Lagoon.
