One of Africa’s largest cities, the concrete jungle of Nairobi holds many allures from museums, temples and mosques, to monuments and wildlife parks. Kenya’s capital city is a great jumping off point for safaris (especially for those looking for something short and cost-effective) as it allows easy access to Kenya’s big game reserves but also to the national park less than hour from the city centre. Head to Nairobi National Park in the morning and you’re almost guaranteed to spot buffalo, zebra, leopard, lion, giraffe and more before breakfast. For wildlife lovers, there’s also Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a crocodile farm and The Giraffe Centre where you can feed endangered Rothschild giraffe. Get cultural with a visit to Kitengela Glass factory or shop for souvenirs at the local Maasai Market. A visit to the home of Karen Blixen - the author of Out of Africa - is not to be missed.
