Madikwe River Lodge

The lodge is located ideally on the Groot Marico River, which is situated in the middle of the notoriously beautiful Madikwe Game Reserve. There are a number of experienced game rangers on site, who will happily share their knowledge and experience of the African bush, as they go out with you on many or your safari rides, or game walks. They’ll be more than happy to give you the ins and outs of the African way of life, and help you begin to understand the wildlife and the importance of preserving the natural surroundings in the Madikwe Game Reserve. You’ll discover the mysteries of the acacia bushfield, and you’ll marvel at the array of wildlife and birds that can be seen on the African plains. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll also be able to spot the ‘big five’ out in the plains. The Game Reserve is situated within the North West Province, and shares a border with Botswana towards the North West. To the south you’ll see the Dwarsberg Mountains, and to the east you’ll see the expanse of the Marico River. The Madikwe Game Reserve is home to a diverse array of animals and plants, with the acacia savannah and the riverside. These different plains and habitats mean that you’re always bound to see a unique combination of species out on the African plains, including cheetahs, lions, white and black rhinos and even elephants. The birdlife on the plains is equally spectacular, being home to hundreds of species of bird.
