Who needs a resort map to hand when you can float around your setting on a private Abra boat tour, gently following the ebb and flow of the on-site canal. It’s a great way to start your stay and there are plenty of options for what to do next. Will it be one of the five pools, the spa and beauty treatments or perhaps something a little more energetic such as tennis, squash or a trip to the fitness centre. Or maybe you fancy a couple of hours out the sun, there is a luxurious 36-seat cinema here showing family favourites and the latest blockbusters. For younger guests, there is a separate pool and professionally run kids club, while parents might enjoy massages or a nightcap with views to the Arabian Gulf. And, in this tranquil retreat on the south-west coast of Bahrain, there is one other must-see item. The white sands and near transparent waters just a few metres away. So much is there to do here that on arrival at the Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain you may wonder what to do first. High on the list must be an Abra Tour, a traditional boat ride on the canal around the resort to see all that there is to offer. It is relaxing, informative and a truly wonderful start to the stay. You will see the five pools including adults-only pool, kids pool and family pool as well as the gentle water slides, you will catch glimpses of the wonderful beach just yards away.

Make a few mental notes as you float, there is the luxurious spa offering a Turkish Hammam, this including women-only facilities and an indoor lap pool solely for female guests. The modern gym and fitness facilities, with inspirational views out into the resort gardens are perfect for when you want to burn a few calories off, after all you’ll have noticed fair few top-class restaurants, bars and cafes. However, to see other facilities you’ll need to explore on foot. For younger visitors there is a professionally run kids club, perhaps to be enjoyed while mum and dad play squash or tennis or cuddle up and share popcorn while watching a blockbuster in the 36-screen cinema.

Maybe the cinema is for the evening though, to be followed by a nightcap with views out to the white sands, or even at Ousol where drinks and comfort food are served until late on the edge of the beach. During the day – well, there are water sports or just swimming and exploring some of the clearest waters you will ever experience. And, if you lose track of what the resort has to offer you could always take another boat trip. There are few better ways to travel.
