    Day 1 & 2 (Arrival and overnight in Halifax, NS)

    The great Canadian city of Halifax is situated in one of the world's largest natural harbours and bears all the traits of both a beautifully modern and historic city in one. A city with proud maritime heritage, it won't surprise you that much of this charm can be discovered within the many museums throughout the city and along the waterfront area where you will find numerous historic buildings restored to their former glories. The is much to experience whilst you are in Halifax so make sure you plan you time well. Take a visit to the Citadel that has guarded the city since the 18th-century. Or f you prefer why not take a tour of the Public Garden or jump aboard the Bluenose II for a cruise of the harbour.

    Heading west along the Nova Scotia coastline traversing the northern shore of the beautiful St. Margaret's Bay area, you will soon find yourself arriving in picturesque Western Shore, located just across the water from the legendary and mysterious Oak Island. Breath-taking views of Mahone Bay will greet you as you spend the evening on Nova Scotia's southern shores. This coastal community offers excellent opportunities to get out and explore the local area along the seaside trails. Remember to keep your eyes peeled as humpback and fin whales love to play off Tancook Island.

    Making your way west across the heartlands of Nova Scotia through the pristine wilderness that a variety of woodland animal call home. En route to Digby, stop off for a day of hiking and exploration at Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site. The trails and canoe routes are accessible from Kejimkujik Lake and give the opportunity to venture deep into the park’s interior and to its remote island-dotted lakes. Kejimkujik Lake itself is worth some time too as the soft slate on the shores have been decorated with petroglyphs and reflect native life prior to the arrival of European settlers. As evening draws settle down for the evening on the southern shores of the Bay of Fundy in the town of Digby.

    Today take the opportunity to view and admire the Bay of Fundy for its natural extremes. Famed for its extreme tides, the vertical range between high and low tide can be as significant as 15 meters making it the greatest rise and fall of water on earth. Continuing your journey towards Truro, your will past by picturesque landscapes which are home to numerous historic sites for you to visit which include landmarks such as the Annapolis Royal Area, the Grand Pré National Historic Site, and Fort Edward National Historic Site where you can learn more about Nova Scotia’s Scottish, Acadian and native heritage.

    On your way to Charlottetown will find yourself passing through Pictou, “Birthplace of New Scotland”. Explore the Hecotr Hertiage Quay where the first Scottish settlers arrived back in 1773 before taking the ferry across across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island, also known as Canada's smallest province. Noted for its peaceful charm and low rolling countryside you will soon arrive in the charming city of Charlottetown. Explore the Victorian homes and elegant squares of Charlottetown that surround the city. Despite its 20th-century character the city displays today, it still evokes the feel of a colonial seaport with quaint sections throughout the city such as Great George Street and Old Charlotte Town.

    Departing Antigonish you soon arrive at the narrows of the ocean and eastern reaches of the Northumberland Strait. Continuing your journey through gentle rolling fields of the St. Georges Bay area the landscape soon transitions into the beautiful Bras D’Or Lake lowlands before arriving at Baddeck for the next two evenings. Often known as the gateway to the Cape Breton Highlands we would suggest taking a beautifully scenic drive along the Cabot Trail into the highlands of northern Cape Breton. The Scottish heritage is clear to see with trail that run past lochs and glens settled by Scottish Highlanders and further along scenic coastlines settled by Acadians. Working your way through the rugged Cape Breton Highlands National Park, ensure you have your camera with you as you enjoy the stunning views of sea-swept headlands, steep cliffs and tranquil beaches. Today you'll also board one of the comfortable, covered touring Love Boats in Cheticamp to take a breath-taking guided tour out to observe whales, seals, eagles, seabirds and wildlife along the scenic coastline of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

    As you continue south passing charming maritime communities, you will soon arrive at Fortress of Louisburg. With one of the historically most significant locations in all of North America, Fortress of Louisburg was one of the most important Canadian ports of World War II and is a fantastic day for adults and children alike as you explore the reconstructed buildings and interactive demonstrations by the staff dressed in typical historical costumes. Historical recreations and demonstrations are enacted throughout the season, giving visitors a glimpse of both the majesty and hardships of life in colonial Canada. Continue your journey on to Bras d’Or Lake, considered to be one of the best sailing and boating venues in the world.

    Day 12 (Baddeck to West Bay - 53 Mi)

    Day 13 (West Bay to Liscombe Mills - 140 Mi)

    Leaving West Bay and shores of Bras d’or Lake behind, your journey will see you pass through Port Hawksbury and over the Canso Causeway which connects eastern and western Nova Scotia. Once on the western shore, you may wish to alter your route and head south towards the rugged southern Nova Scotian coastline. This coastal highway passes through great natural habitats, beach parks and dramatic shorelines along the eastern Atlantic coast before arriving at Liscombe Mills.
