Making your way west across the heartlands of Nova Scotia through the pristine wilderness that a variety of woodland animal call home. En route to Digby, stop off for a day of hiking and exploration at Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site. The trails and canoe routes are accessible from Kejimkujik Lake and give the opportunity to venture deep into the park’s interior and to its remote island-dotted lakes. Kejimkujik Lake itself is worth some time too as the soft slate on the shores have been decorated with petroglyphs and reflect native life prior to the arrival of European settlers. As evening draws settle down for the evening on the southern shores of the Bay of Fundy in the town of Digby.

On your way to Charlottetown will find yourself passing through Pictou, “Birthplace of New Scotland”. Explore the Hecotr Hertiage Quay where the first Scottish settlers arrived back in 1773 before taking the ferry across across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island, also known as Canada's smallest province. Noted for its peaceful charm and low rolling countryside you will soon arrive in the charming city of Charlottetown. Explore the Victorian homes and elegant squares of Charlottetown that surround the city. Despite its 20th-century character the city displays today, it still evokes the feel of a colonial seaport with quaint sections throughout the city such as Great George Street and Old Charlotte Town.

Departing Antigonish you soon arrive at the narrows of the ocean and eastern reaches of the Northumberland Strait. Continuing your journey through gentle rolling fields of the St. Georges Bay area the landscape soon transitions into the beautiful Bras D’Or Lake lowlands before arriving at Baddeck for the next two evenings. Often known as the gateway to the Cape Breton Highlands we would suggest taking a beautifully scenic drive along the Cabot Trail into the highlands of northern Cape Breton. The Scottish heritage is clear to see with trail that run past lochs and glens settled by Scottish Highlanders and further along scenic coastlines settled by Acadians. Working your way through the rugged Cape Breton Highlands National Park, ensure you have your camera with you as you enjoy the stunning views of sea-swept headlands, steep cliffs and tranquil beaches. Today you'll also board one of the comfortable, covered touring Love Boats in Cheticamp to take a breath-taking guided tour out to observe whales, seals, eagles, seabirds and wildlife along the scenic coastline of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Leaving West Bay and shores of Bras d’or Lake behind, your journey will see you pass through Port Hawksbury and over the Canso Causeway which connects eastern and western Nova Scotia. Once on the western shore, you may wish to alter your route and head south towards the rugged southern Nova Scotian coastline. This coastal highway passes through great natural habitats, beach parks and dramatic shorelines along the eastern Atlantic coast before arriving at Liscombe Mills.
