Get off the beaten track in Moorea, one of French Polynesia’s most scenic islands. Much of the fun here is water-based – go dolphin and whale watching, brave an underwater flying experience or helmet dive and hand-feed rays on a snorkel excursion. Prefer to stay dry? Explore by glass-bottomed boat or sunset catamaran cruise. On land, there’s all sorts of adventures in Moorea’s lush terrain – go ziplining above the treetops, hike archaeological ruins, pineapple fields and volcanoes, zoom around by 4x4 or skydive and see it all from above.

You’ll find typical Pacific Island cuisine in Moorea. There’s a focus on seafood and fresh fruit and veggies. Pork slow-cooked in an underground firepit is one of the cultural favourites and usually comes accompanied with traditional Polynesian dancing – a real treat! Most dishes are served with starch in the form of rice, cassava or Taro root while Taro leaves, breadfruit and bananas are served as vegetables. You’ll find many dishes are made with coconut milk and lime juice. Dining out? There’s everything from food trucks to fine dining here.

Moorea is the perfect holiday hotspot for nature lovers. Visit the Moorea Tropical Garden, a family-run horticultural centre that grows native fruit and vegetables, including the famous vanilla bean. Or discover more native plants with a hike up Moorea’s Magic Mountain. Don’t leave without visiting a local pineapple plantation and a juice factory. Spend a few hours at the Tiki Village for a fun cultural day out, discover the marine wildlife of the lagoonarium, a fenced in lagoon home to rays to turtles, or explore the Moorea Dolphin Centre – a family favourite.
