Minimalist interior design in Gôra Kadan’s rooms and suites is in keeping with the traditions of rural Japanese-style, where carefully placed wooden furnishings and plenty of light continue the calming theme which is found elsewhere throughout the property’s manicured grounds. While the indoor swimming pool and spa are both an undoubted delight, it is - to a degree - on the outside where things really come into their own, as you are not only situated amidst the natural splendour of Hakone National Park, but will be treated to picture-perfect gardens and enchanting outdoor patios. From the moss-covered rocks to centuries-old trees, private hot springs and perfectly symmetrical rock formations, the intentional serenity which this guesthouse’s once-royal residence would have demanded is still there today. Dining is also something to behold, as endless tasting plates and inventive flavour fusions are matched only by their impressively artistic presentation on arrival!

Dining
The meals at Gôra Kadan are as refined as you would expect from such an exquisite ryokan, with the traditional Kaiseki cuisine served in the privacy of your guestroom on tatami mats, or in the elegant restaurant. Kaiseki is like a gastronomical work of art, made up of several courses with set customs in how the meal is presented, each plate subtly combining flavours, textures and arrangements in a unique way. This delicate gourmet experience is a must-do during any visit to Japan, though Gôra Kadan, being an unrivalled ryokan in Hakone, is an exceptional place to sample it.
