Day 1: Samburu National Reserve

Arrive in Nairobi & Transfer to Samburu National Reserve

Upon your arrival in Nairobi, you will be greeted at the airport by a local representative and transferred to Samburu National Reserve via a scenic drive.

Known for its unique wildlife and dramatic landscapes, the Samburu National Reserve is home to rare species such as the Grevy’s zebra and the Somali ostrich, along with other iconic African wildlife including elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards and cheetah.

You’ll arrive at your accommodation in time for lunch, before heading out for your first game drive in the afternoon and ending the day with a delicious dinner under the starry African sky.

Game Drives in Samburu National Reserve

Enjoy a full day of exploring the pristine wilderness of Samburu National Reserve during morning and evening game drives.

Traversing the park’s rugged terrain and winding riverbanks that are often frequented by numerous species, you’ll have the opportunity to glimpse wildlife such as elephants, lions and Samburu’s ‘Special Five’ rare species: Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx. The reserve is also famous for its leopard population and is believed to be the place where travellers have the highest chance of spotting these elusive predators in Kenya.

Between game drives, you can relax at the camp to enjoy its facilities while you soak up the evocative atmosphere of the African bush.

Transfer to Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Following breakfast, you’ll transfer by road to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, renowned for its conservation efforts, which include its being a rhino sanctuary and the home of the last two remaining northern white rhinos.

After checking into your accommodation, you’ll enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon game drive, after which you’ll return to camp to relax and enjoy dinner.

You’ll visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a refuge for orphaned and maltreated chimpanzees, and enjoy both morning and evening game drives for the chance to spot the ‘Big Five’ species and other African wildlife.

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be driven to Lake Nakuru National Park, renowned for its dramatic escarpments and plethora of birdlife including flamingoes, pelicans, secretary birds and fish eagles. The park also hosts one of the largest black rhino concentrations in the country as well as substantial numbers of white rhino. Additionally, you can spot a variety of other fascinating species throughout the park such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo, lion, leopard and various species of primate.

Once you have arrived at your accommodation and enjoyed lunch, you’ll head out for an afternoon game drive through the park for the opportunity to glimpse various species in their natural habitat.
