What's more, you'll cap off your Bornean escape with two nights beside a pristine beach, giving you opportunity to enjoy the bliss of the tropics.Arrival in Kuching
Upon your arrival in Kuching, you will be greeted by a local representative and transferred to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle.
After checking in, the rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure – you could choose to take a stroll along the charming Kuching Waterfront, which follows the Sarawak River, passing a long stretch of tropical gardens and some of the city’s most notable landmarks.
Accommodation: Pullman Kuching (or alternative hotel of equal standard).
Walk the White Rajah Trail (3 hours)
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you’ll set out on a revealing walking tour of Kuching to discover the city’s fascinating cultural heritage.
Follow the same streets and alleyways the three ‘White Rajahs of Sarawak’ used to take during their hundred-year reign. The ‘White Rajahs of Sarawak’ refers to the Brookes, a family of Englishmen who ruled Sarawak from 1841 until 1946, when Charles Vyner Brooke ceded the Raj of Sarawak to the British Empire.
As you navigate the charming streets, let the sights, sounds and smells of Kuching and Old Asia permeate your senses and transport you into a bygone era as you discover how the White Rajahs left their imprint on the city, mostly in the form of elegant colonial-style buildings like the Astana or the old Courthouse.
Heading to the Waterfront Jetty, you’ll take a sampan (river taxi) across the Sarawak River to stroll though a quaint Malay village, ascending a hill to Fort Margherita, where you can delve further into the history of Sarawak. Then, explore the old streets of Carpenter, Gambier and India plus the old alleyways, corridors and the oldest Indian mosque in Kuching, as well as the oldest Chinese temple in Sarawak.
Following your morning discovery of Kuching, the remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure.
Accommodation: Pullman Kuching (or alternative hotel of equal standard).

Journey up the Lemanak River
After breakfast, you’ll depart for the 220-kilometre journey to and up the Lemanak River, a transfer of approximately 3 hrs 30 mins, with plenty of stops along the way to take in the sights of Sarawak.
The first stop will be in Serian, a small Chinese town where you can buy some refreshments and visit a thriving local market that sells an abundance of fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. Other stops en route include a visit to a pepper farm to see wild orchids and pitcher plants, plus a stop at Lachau, a small Chinese village where you’ll stop for a replenishing lunch.
Continuing up to the Lemanak River, you’ll head to a jetty and embark on a short river trip to your longhouse accommodation with your guide, travelling aboard a traditional longtail boat.
Your rustic-style, longhouse homestay is situated amid the flourishing rainforest of Sarawak, the surrounding settlements inhabited by the Iban people, who maintain a traditional lifestyle. The Iban people were once notorious head-hunters, slaying their enemies and then preserving their heads to bring good fortune - nowadays, their existence is a much more peaceful one. You can observe their unique culture firsthand during your stay, enjoying a delicious communal meal before watching a traditional dance and sipping a glass of local rice wine as you mingle with the villagers.
It is tradition amongst the Iban to bring a gift when entering someone’s home; typical gifts between villages would include things like small food items, rice wine or tobacco. During your lunch stop earlier in the day, your guide will assist you in purchasing some gifts to bring with you to the homestay.
Accommodation: Iban Longhouse Homestay (or alternative hotel of equal standard).
INCLUDES : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Return to Kuching via Semenggoh Orangutan Centre
Wake to the enchanting melodies of the jungle and observe the Iban people going about their morning tasks. After a rustic breakfast, you’ll go for a short walk through the lush foliage, guided by members of the Iban tribe, who will explain the uses and medicinal properties of some of the plants found in the jungle. You’ll also have the opportunity to try using a blowpipe and see the jungle traps they use to hunt.
After this immersive jungle walk, you’ll head downriver and board a local longtail boat with your guide and a couple of tribesmen. Drifting through beautiful rainforest scenery and past local settlements, you’ll eventually disembark and the Iban will cook you a delicious meal in the comfort of a local farm hut, with the food cooked by traditional method: steamed within bamboo tubes over an open fire. Returning to the boat and heading back downriver to a nearby jetty, you’ll disembark and continue the rest of the way back to Kuching by road, a journey of approximately four hours.
En route to Kuching, you’ll visit the Semenggoh Orangutan Centre, a 740-acre sanctuary which houses both orphaned orangutans and orangutans rescued from captivity. The orangutans here have been trained or re-trained to survive in their natural habitat, having learnt how to forage for food and build nests in trees, before being released into this natural reserve. Daily scheduled feeding times provide the opportunity to observe these magnificent primates moving through the canopies.
