Located in the small, unspoilt village of Ella, 98 Acres commands seemingly never-ending views down to the valley, out to the coast, and to mountains sprinkled with waterfalls, forests, monuments and flora and fauna.
From the beautiful pool, or perhaps out on a terrace you can breathe in this vista, but most cannot resist the urge to head out and explore, especially with so many options.
Take to the skies for a helicopter trip as you marvel at Ella Gap and Mini Adams peak, or hurtle along Sri Lanka’s first zip wire, an exhilarating half-kilometre long source of adrenaline. Enjoy the more sedate tea making experience, learn about the production of Ceylon Tea, and taste the freshest brews you will ever experience.
On foot, you can hike, perhaps trying to spot some of the 63 bird species, or go on a bike trek that takes you to the Namunukula mountain range and back via the Nine Arch Bridge and famous Demodara railway loop.
That is an all-day trip, but you will be back in time for dinner at the a la carte restaurant, where you can enjoy Asian specialties or stick to western favourites.
After all that walking and cycling – and perhaps a trip to the resort’s gym - will surely necessitate visiting the spa – and here you will find a range of treatments that utilise herbs grown in the 98 Acres gardens.
Rooms have modern luxuries but traditional design – and the all-important free WiFi. However, this is a holiday more about the places where you won’t find WiFi. By the waterfalls, in a trek, or parking up the bike to look at views perhaps the best you have ever seen. Posting to social media can wait.
