After checking in, you can choose to spend the afternoon lingering by the pool, savouring a decadent afternoon tea or embarking on a guided stroll through Little Rome, the heart of Negombo’s vibrant fishing community.

Uga Riva is a meticulously restored 180-year-old colonial manor house nestled within a lush five-acre coconut estate.

You’ll check into your next hotel, Uga Halloowella, whose elevated position affords spellbinding vistas across the mist-shrouded hillsides of the verdant tea country. Established as a colonial-era tea estate, the original building was built in 1880 and owned by a World War I fighter pilot for the R.A.F.

As evening enfolds the rolling landscapes in the silky light of dusk, you’ll enjoy an elegant Sri Lankan high-tea experience on the hotel’s panoramic terrace, complete with an elaborate English-style display of finger foods, sweet treats and a soothing cup of tea or coffee.

To conclude the experience, you can sit down and enjoy a cup of premium Ceylon tea.

Day 5: Yala National Park

Transfer to Yala, Evening Game Drive in Yala National Park

Following an early breakfast, you’ll check out of the hotel and reconvene with your chauffeur-guide for the scenic road transfer to Yala National Park, a densely vegetated swathe of wilderness in Sri Lanka’s southeast corner. This scenic road journey takes approximately 5hrs 30 mins, with plenty of opportunities to stop en route for refreshments.

In Yala, you’ll check into your next hotel, Uga Chena Huts, which is comprised of a cluster of individual cabins with private pools that enjoy views of the surrounding wilderness and coast.

In the evening, you’ll embark on an enthralling game drive through Yala National Park to go in search of its diverse wildlife, which includes Sri Lankan elephants, sloth bears and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Though sightings are not guaranteed, Yala National Park is home to the world’s highest density of leopards, making it the best place on the planet to spot these graceful big cats.

These private game drives are hosted by experienced, in-house rangers who gravitate towards quieter areas of the park, ensuring a more intimate safari experience.

During the cooler hours of the afternoon, you can head out on an immersive Bush Walk to look out for tracks and footprints that may signal sightings of elephants, wild boar or rusty spotted cats. Stalking through the arid scrublands and dry forests of the park provides a deeply immersive interaction with the surrounding wilderness, encouraging you to soak up the sights, sounds and smells of the Sri Lankan wilderness at a more intimate level.

Optionally, you can enjoy a late-evening Secret Sundowner Drive to some of the staff’s favourite secluded locations where you can relish dramatic views while savouring a gourmet picnic with cocktails and canapés.
