Black Mountain Water Park is a lively place to visit, with its nine slides and outstanding wave pool, but if you want something with a little more WOW factor, why not take the trip to an ethical elephant sanctuary?

Hua Hin beach is a three-mile stretch of silken sands offering a variety of activities and ends at Khao Takiap, a Buddhist temple that clings to the cliffside - a breathtaking sight.

Hua Hin night market offers everything from gemstones to fresh food, with locally-produced printed cotton making for great souvenirs.

Hua Hin Food & Drink

Seafood is the delicacy for which Hua Hin is rightfully famous.

Try SEA Harmony or La Terrace for fresh-from-the-water offerings, or the Happy Pig Restaurant for continental fare and a friendly atmosphere. Hagi offers excellent Japanese cuisine, and the Suan Bua Thai Buffet is a good way to sample the most popular dishes.

There are also Italian, French and Spanish restaurants in Hua Hin, along with the Red Piano Wine Bar, and on-beach dining is available in several locations.

If you are arriving in Hua Hin via train, be sure to take in Hua Hin railway station, which is one of the oldest in Thailand. The Royal Waiting Room was used to welcome Thai royalty when they began using Hua Hin as a summer retreat in the 1920s.

The Huay Mongkol temple is a must-see on any trip into the Hua Hin hills, as is the royal palace of Klai Kangwon, although it is only open when the royal family is not in residence. You can see huge statues of past kings at Ratchapak Park, which is a great photo opportunity!
