Travel Tips & Advice for Koh Phangan & Koh Tao

Koh Phangan & Koh Tao Activities

If you enjoy active holidays, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are perfect, with plenty of activities on and off the water. Koh Tao is the place for scuba diving in Thailand – explore the underwater sculptures of Ocean Utopia and join the marine life at the Japanese Gardens or snorkel the reefs of Haad Tien and Koh Nangyuan where the water clarity is faultless.

If you prefer to stay onshore, the rocky landscape of Koh Phangan is ideal for hiking and climbing, and the trail to the Nam Tok Phaeng waterfall provides a stunning view. For a more relaxed approach, you can simply spend your days soaking up the sun on the picture perfect white sand beaches.

Koh Phangan & Koh Tao Food & Drink

There are some outstanding restaurants and street stalls on Koh Phangan, and whether you're at a 5* resort or at the night market, you're sure to find a delicious dish. The Village Square at Buri Rasa Village has a range of dining choices along the cobbles, or you can dine by the beach at The Beach Club.

While Thai seafood specialties are scattered along the beaches of Koh Tao, a vast array of international cuisine can be found in Mae Haad or Sairee Beach including English pub food, Australian grills, Indian curries, French fine-dining and more. Sairee Beach is where you'll find the islanders making their way from the beach bars at the northern end down to the nightclubs on the beach’s southern end as the night progresses.

Koh Phangan & Koh Tao Attractions

One of the best ways to spend an evening on Koh Phangan is to head to one of the beaches and see the beautiful golden sunsets. Secret Beach is in the north-west of the island and has some of the best vantage points, with many secluded beaches on the east coast. If you want to enjoy one of the island's famous celebrations, ensure that you're there on a full moon, which is celebrated at the Full Moon Party every month. Here you can dance and party among everyone else, from dusk to dawn.

And dive straight into the warm waters of Koh Tao. This is Thailand’s scuba diving island of choice and has a vibrant marine life and excellent clarity not to be missed – ‘Koh Tao’ does translate to ‘Turtle Island’ after all!
