Day 2 Arenal

Scenic drive to Arenal

After a fairly early breakfast transfer to the amazing Arenal area, the drive takes around 3 hours. The region offers a landscape of exceptional beauty with its forests, lagoons, fields of crops, rivers with hot springs and the country's most active volcano. In the afternoon you have a range of activities available from your hotel front desk, your first opportunity to get close to nature and sample some of the incredible experiences this special country is renowned for. Enjoy Arenal with a Volcano Hiking Tour & Tabacon Hot Springs

After breakfast, the morning is at leisure.

In the afternoon there is a hiking tour to the vicinity of the Arenal Volcano, following a trail close (but not too close!) to the volcanic area. Following this there's a chance to bathe at the unparalleled thermal springs at Tabacon, the best known luxury hot springs in Costa Rica. Dinner is included at the resort afterwards.

Day 4 Cloud Forest & The Town Of Monteverde

After breakfast depart the hotel and drive to Lake Arenal Dam for a 30 minute scenic cruise across the tranquil lake taking in views of the commanding volcano, a mountain range and bird spotting opportunities. Following the boat trip sit back and enjoy an impressive drive up the mountainside on a steep road admiring stunning views of the lush valley and varied landscape to reach the town of Monteverde, located at the south end of the cloud forest. Here the climate is cooler, with an average of 17ºC (60ºF).

Around 5:30 pm embark on a twilight walk of the Bajo Del Tigre section of the Eternal Children's Rainforest, a unique private reserve. During the guided walk it is possible you will observe snakes, tarantulas, fireflies, frogs and owls, if you're lucky you might spot a porcupine or sloth (dusk is one of the busiest times in the forest dwellers' schedule.)

After breakfast, transfer to the Papagayo area, on the Pacific Coast, approx. 3 hour drive.

Check in to Secrets Papagayo, an adult-only resort surrounded by lush mountains and beside a black volcanic sand beach, with elegantly appointed rooms and suites and a superior all-inclusive experience. Facilities include 4 a la carte restaurants and 5 bars including 1 swim-up bar, state-of-the-art fitness centre, non-motorised watersports and a full service spa (additional costs for treatments.)

The next few days are yours to spend at leisure. Active seekers can speak to the hotel's activity desk for optional fishing, golfing, scuba diving and whitewater rafting experiences (please note these are at an additional charge).

Secrets Papagayo offers excellent dining at a selection of restaurants and bars on site, with unlimited international and domestic top-shelf spirits. It has a choice of swimming pools and access to two beaches, with wait service, plus watersports. There is also a nature trail within the hotel grounds.
