Visit Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Sacred Valley on this whistle stop tour of Peru.
This 8 day tour allows you to visit many of Peru's must see sights in a short space of time. Start your holiday with a couple of nights in Peru's capital city Lima. Modern Lima is nowadays famous for some of the best food in all of South America with several world class restaurants. After Lima it is up into the Andes and a stay in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, a region packed with bustling market towns and Inca ruins. From the Sacred Valley you continue to Machu Picchu where you enjoy a guided tour of these magnificent ruins. You finish your trip in the beautiful and historic town of Cuzco which was once the Inca capital and nowadays is an excellently preserved colonial town.Arrival into Lima
On arrival in Lima, you will receive assistance at the airport and be transferred to your selected hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure, to get to know the city.
Colonial City Tour Lima, Casa Aliaga & Larco Museum
Your tour of Lima’s UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town starts in the Main Square, taking in the cathedral which took 80 years to build. Carry on Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion from the 1500s and the Larco Musuem housed in a beautifully restored vice-regal mansion in the traditional Pueblo Libre district; the museum houses the most complete collection of pre-Hispanic gold and silver artefacts. You’ll end the day at the ‘Love Park’ in the upscale coastal district of Miraflores where you can admire the cliffs and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

Private Transfer Sacred Valley & Awanakancha Weaving Centre
Pick-up after breakfast and transfer from your hotel to Lima Airport to catch a flight to Cusco. Welcome meeting on arrival, followed by transfer to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. On the way to the hotel, you will stop at Awanakancha, a farm of South American camelids and showroom of textiles, where local families show the entire traditional process of weaving. The remainder of your evening is at leisure.

Pisac Ruins, Market & Ollantaytambo
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing for the Urubamba River Valley. The first stop is Pisac archaeological site and to wander through its market. Lunch in a local restaurant, before continuing to Ollantaytambo fortress. The site is a huge archaeological complex which, although it is known as a ‘fortress’, was actually a tambo, a leisure city used to accommodate delegations that travelled long distances.

Lost City of the Incas; Machu Picchu
Enjoy breakfast before heading to Ollantaytambo Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. Following a scenic two hour journey through dramatic Andean landscapes, arrive at the station in Aguas Calientes. Here you board a coach for a 20-minute ride to Machu Picchu itself. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ had lain abandoned in the heavens for four centuries until American explorer Hiram Bingham happened upon it in 1911. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by Inca Emperor Pachacuti as a retreat. A guided tour explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and the most prominent landmarks among the 200 or so buildings such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial and the Burial Grounds. Return back to Aguas Calientes to rest and relax for the evening.

Machu Picchu to Sun Gate or Huayna Picchu Mountain
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel and a free morning. We strongly recommend that you wake early today and make your way up to Machu Picchu as the ruins are at its quietest in the morning. If you are feeling adventurous you can climb Huayna Picchu (permits need to be booked in advance), which is about 360 meters above Machu Picchu. Another option is the Inca Bridge, a secret military trail, which controlled access to the citadel. In the afternoon return by train to Cusco.

City Tour and Archaeological Sites
The morning is free to spend at your leisure. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Cusco starting with a visit to Santo Domingo Convent, a large Renaissance-baroque complex, which was built over the Inca Qoricancha temple. It was one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun and its foundations are still prominent at the base of the convent. Continue to the Plaza de Armas to visit the cathedral featuring an elaborate Renaissance façade built over a demolished Incan temple. Head to the hills above Cusco to visit the remains of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, which imposing ramparts offer a stunning panoramic view of Cusco, the ruins of temple and amphitheatre of Qenqo, where it is believed the Incas practiced agricultural rituals. Finally, visit Puka Pukara (‘Red fortress’ in Quechua) an Incan military complex located on a prominent hill.
