We have combined an overnight journey aboard the opulent Blue Train with time in Cape Town as well as a thrilling safari in the Greater Kruger National Park. Discover history, cuisine, comfort and the Big 5 on this nostalgia-filled journey.UK to Cape Town
Arrive into the waterside city of Cape Town, perched between the ocean and dramatic Table Mountain. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city.

Scenic Cape Town offers as much or as little activity as you desire so speak to your Best at Travel consultant about what you want to get out of your time here. Relax around your hotel, soak in the cafe culture of Camps Bay or hit the shops for some retails therapy. Alternatively, join one of our city tours to discover the heritage and culture of Cape Town, plus take a boat trip out to Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

Great White Shark Cage Diving
Pick up is at 06:30 from your hotel for your transfer to the little town of Kleinbaai, close to Hermanus and Gansbaai. After a safety briefing, you board your shark-chaser, the Predator II for the 5-mile voyage to Dyer Island. The island, together with Geyser Rock nearby, is home to 40 000 Cape Fur Seals, the Great White Shark’s favourite prey, and the channel which runs between the two is known as Shark Alley.
This is where you will anchor - using a specially mixed chum to attract the sharks, you will soon have an opportunity to see them feeding at the surface, alongside the boat. The cage is then lowered and you will be able to witness these incredible hunters of the deep in your wetsuit, protected by galvanised steel mesh. All diving equipment is supplied and only snorkelling experience is required if you want to go down in the cage. A light lunch is served on the boat as well as refreshments and you will have the chance to see seals and whales in season as well as the sharks. Return to land at around 15:00 for your transfer back to your hotel.
The Blue Train
Your driver will collect you from the hotel and transfer you and your luggage to the train station. Check in commences at 7.30am and shortly after a butler will escort you to your cabin to provide an orientation for the cabin and the Blue Train experience. Enjoy brunch in these opulent surroundings, watching as the remarkable scenery of South Africa zips past the window. At 2.30 the train pulls into Matjiesfontein station where you have 45 minutes to step off the train. Sherry is served in the station bar before reboarding and continuing your journey to the interior of this magnificent country. Dinner is served in truly opulent style before you settle in for a soporific nights on the rails.

The Blue Train & Pretoria
Enjoy a leisurely morning aboard the Blue Train as it closes its journey through the African landscape to Pretoria. At 12.50 you will arrive into Pretoria station and be met by a transfer to take you to your hotel for the night.

Pretoria to Kruger National Park
Your journey toward the legendary Kruger National Park begins with a transfer to Johannesburg airport and a flight to the remote airport of Hoedspruit. From here you will be taken to the Thornybush Game Reserve which occupies land immediately adjacent to Kruger National Park. There are no fences across this Greater Kruger region so you see these amazing animals in the natural habitat. Thornybush offers a range of accommodation options but all are sympathetic to the environment and offer a truly memorable safari experience.

Thornybush Game Reserve
Your first game drive begins just before dawn, as your driver-guide comes to collect you. Head into the bush as the sun starts to warm the land and your expert guide will be on the look out for all manner of wonderful wildlife. All guests want to see the Big 5 and the Kruger area is one of the best places in the world to do this. Lions, buffalo, rhinos, leopards and hippos all call this region home, as well as giraffes, zerbras and cheetahs. After the morning drive breakfast is served and you have the warmest part of the day to relax at the lodge. By late afternoon it is time to head back out on safari and see the animals waking back up after their slumber in the midday heat. At the end of the drive, against the backdrop of the setting sun, make a stop for a cold beer or wine before heading back to the lodge for dinner and a well-earned night's sleep.

Kruger National Park to UK
Take to the trails once more for a final morning game drive before checking out of the lodge and transferring back to Johannesburg airport for your flight home.
