To experience the real Chicago, get to the shores of its famous lake. The North Avenue Beach area is popular with a chic local crowd and offers outstanding views of the cityscape beyond. Lake Shore Drive has a more select feel and is flanked by lush green spaces; the Lakeside Trail is often busy with day-trippers, joggers and families having fun in the sun. The city's Navy Pier has recently been redeveloped into a thoroughly modern recreational space, with many fun attractions.
