Right on the water’s edge, the Owl and the Pussycat is a delightful mix of character, charm and comfort, doing away with glitz and glamour and instead focusing on the important details done exceptionally well. There’s plenty of room in the boutique rooms and suites, every one individually designed in bright tropical colours with sea views, large, comfortable beds, walk-in showers and quirky details – we love the embroidered owl and pussycat cushions. Food at beachfront The Runcible Spoon restaurant is really very good: delicious local specialties are sure to be a highlight and seafood is fresh and delicious. Within the grounds framed by palm and plum trees, a 17-metre long swimming pool looks over the Indian Ocean, complimentary yoga sessions are held twice a week, spa treatments can be arranged in a cabin on the beach and live jazz is played in the weekends. If you fancy a dip in the ocean, there’s a swimmable beach 100-metres down the road and the heritage fort-city of Galle a short tuk-tuk drive away.
