Your dream holiday is just a phone call away

I started as a Lunn Poly YT trainee many years ago for £40 a week so I could gain my NVQ 2+3 qualification in Travel & Tourism. I was quickly taken on full-time and then left to work at a long haul specialist and have been sending people to exotic destinations across the globe ever since. Now, I love travelling with my two children; we go on an annual holiday to the Caribbean and recently visited Dubai for the first time. I have visited most of the Caribbean islands, been to many European destinations as well as the USA and Canada, learning all about these destinations and how I can pass on this expert knowledge to clients.

Q & A with our expert gabie

How Many Years Have You Worked in the Travel Industry?

30 years.

Which Destination/s Do You Specialise In?

The Caribbean and other long-haul destinations such as Mauritius and Dubai.

What's At The Top of Your Bucket List?

I would love to visit the Maldives and see this breathtaking tropical archipelago for  myself.

Why Do You Love Working in Travel?

I find it so lovely and rewarding to talk to clients and help plan a special holiday with them so they can create lasting memories with their loved ones.

What Was Your Best Ever Trip?

I would have to say my honeymoon in South Africa and Mauritius. We journeyed across the beautiful Garden Route in the Western Cape, cage dived with great white sharks, went on whale watching excursions, an incredible safari, and then finished with a relaxing beach holiday in Mauritius.

Where Would You Describe as a Secret Gem?

In terms of accommodation, I would say Couples Swept Away. Not a lot of people know about this hotel and everyone I have sent there always books a return visit. Not only is the white-sand beach stunning beyond belief; the people are all friendly and you'll hear Bob Marley from ear to ear as soon as you arrive!

What Was Your Most Awe-Inspiring Moment?

On a bike ride in South Africa, we came face-to-face with a small herd of giraffe, which are the most gentle and peaceful animals to observe in the wild.

What's the One Item You Always Take With You?

A UK extension lead. Then you only need one adaptor and can charge multiple devices in one point.

Top Travel Tip

Don't be afraid to talk to the local people. They are just as fascinated about you as you are with them, and sharing life stories over a cold beer in the sun is a really special experience.

Biggest Blunder Abroad

I haven't really had any major blunders while travelling thankfully, but visiting Saint Lucia during the rainy season once turned out to be a mistake. Rain all day, every day after a glorious week of sunshine in Antigua!

My Top Recommendations

What's your favourite destination and why?

I love Barbados. It’s a very chilled and relaxed island with stunning beaches and vibrant culture. You feel very safe there and the people are so friendly and welcoming.

What's your favourite hotel?

I love Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica. It's located on a beautiful stretch of Jamaica's coastline on Seven Mile Beach and offers great experiences, farm-to-table dining, unlimited golf and water sports and has a very laidback atmosphere.

My Best Childhood Holiday Memory

I vividly remember frequenting the Greek taverna in Corfu. Everyone always thought my dad was Greek as he was always up with the waiters dancing and plate-smashing! The owner used to give us a lift back to our accommodation on the back of his pickup truck which felt like a real local experience.
