Q & A with our expert neil

How Many Years Have You Worked in the Travel Industry?

I've worked in travel for more than 10 years.

Which Destination/s Do You Specialise In?

There are so many to choose from, but if I had to narrow it down I would have to say Asia. It's such a beautiful part of the world, the food is amazing and I can't stay still for too long which means I can explore as much of this incredible region as possible. It's super easy and cheap to eat out, and the hospitality Asia offers really makes it a difficult place to leave.

Specialised Destination?

Asia and Europe are my specialised areas, although I also sell everywhere from the Middle East to the Indian Ocean, Africa, USA, Caribbean, Costa Rice and French Polynesia.

What's at the Top of Your Bucket List?

The island resort of Pangkor Laut in Malaysia. I've visited Malaysia three times but have never found time to visit this beautiful resort, so it's at the top of my list for when I visit next!

Why Do You Love Working in Travel?

For me, travel is an addiction. I love a challenge and get real satisfaction from making clients happy by sharing my knowledge and expertise with them, and I love hearing all about their experience when they get back from their holiday.

What's Your Best Ever Trip?

I once put together a bit of a crazy itinerary and went with it, taking in Singapore, Malaysia through Penang, Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur, then across to Thailand where I stayed in Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands and Bangkok. Every day was an adventure and I couldn't wait to wake up each morning and explore the next place.

Your Secret Gem?

The Datai Langkawi. It's a stunning resort between the rainforest and the sea on the pristine Malaysian island of Langkawi.

What's the One Item You Always Take With You?

Cash. It's still king in a lot of places.

Top Travel Tip?

Book early - around 10-11 months prior to departure if you can. There'll be more availability and you often get the best airfare prices and early booking discounts.

Biggest Blunder Abroad?

I once travelled to Borneo from Madrid and my suitcase was left behind! I had to buy new clothes when connecting in Heathrow. Always pack spare clothes in your hand luggage, just in case!

My Top Recommendations

My Favourite Hotel

I have stayed in so many exceptional hotels, but I would have to go with Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Krabi, Thailand. It is such a stunning and tranquil property!

My Most Awe-Inspiring Moment

Without a doubt, it was seeing wild orangutans in Borneo - they are such amazing creatures!

My Most Recent Work Trip

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I visited Young Island, Saint Vincent, Palm Island, Petit Saint Vincent and Canouan. It was an out-of-this-world experience and I didn't want to leave - this beautiful archipelago in the Caribbean is a true paradise on Earth.
