Your dream holiday is just a phone call away

I've worked in travel for 28 years after becoming fascinated by the idea of travel at a young age; I loved studying maps of the world and was equally obsessed with planes, boats and trains. After completing my studies in Leisure & Tourism, I planned on travelling around the world, living out of a backpack. However, life had a different path in store for me, and I soon found myself a father to three amazing daughters. With them, I've managed to pursue my travel dreams and together we have stayed in so many beautiful countries around the world - I think my passion for travel rubbed off on them as they are all now avid travel enthusiasts themselves!

Q & A with our expert robert

How many years have you worked in the travel industry?

28 years.

What's your favourite destination and why?

The Caribbean. There are too many islands to choose from, but each one I've visited is home to vibrant culture, delicious food and infectious music. The region has the soul and culture I was used to when growing up with our lovely neighbours and my childhood friends and it's a vibe I love getting immersed in while on holiday. Not only that, but the beauty, biodiversity and clarity of the Caribbean Sea is hard to match.

Which destination/s do you specialise in?

Caribbean, Far East, Indian Ocean, Europe and Southern Africa.

What's at the top of your bucket list?

New Zealand. This remote island nation has always fascinated me with its Maori culture and jaw-dropping landscapes.

Why do you love working in travel?

I love to pass on my travel knowledge through my job and tailor-make holidays to suit our clients, curating perfect itineraries and passing on my first-hand knowledge and experience to create personalised holidays that are unique to each person.

What's your best childhood holiday memory?

My first journey aboard a plane when I was four years old. I flew to Cork in Ireland with my dad and will never forget the memory of soaring through the clouds with him for the first time.

What's your favourite hotel?

GoldenEye in Jamaica. This amazing 5-star property was once home to Ian Fleming, writer and creator of James Bond. Now it's one of the island's most coveted luxury hotels and boasts exemplary service, tropical gardens, private beaches and coves and superb dining.

What was your most awe-inspiring moment?

Landing on top of the Andes Mountains by helicopter for a glass of champagne and to take in the snowy views of the breathtaking landscapes of Argentina.

What's the one item you always take with you?

A Bluetooth speaker.

Top travel tip

Try to savour each and every moment and get involved with the local culture.

My Top Recommendations

My Best Ever Trip

I once visited six Southern African countries in seven days. We had our own pilot for the week with a 12-seater caravan aircraft to carry us from place to place. We flew to Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. It was a truly unforgettable experience for me.

My Most Recent Work Trip

Mauritius. This tropical island in the Indian Ocean is a real paradise, home to turquoise waters, white-sand beaches and a lush interior that bulges with rugged mountains and pristine rainforest.

My Secret Gem

Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia. This exquisite hotel boasts extraordinary vistas of Saint Lucia's coastline and the dramatic Piton peaks. It was the place where I proposed to my wife so it holds a very special place in my heart.
