On my recent trip to the sun-soaked Spanish island of Majorca, I visited one of the Balearics’ most stunning luxury hotels, the 5-star Ikos Porto Petro.
Nestled along Majorca’s rugged southeastern coastline, this top-notch retreat boasts breathtaking views across the Mediterranean Sea as well as world-class amenities and phenomenal service, promising an unforgettable luxury Spain holiday.

Setting & Style
Located near the charming fishing village of Porto Petro, where sun-wrinkled fishermen can be spotted returning to shore with their latest catch, the Ikos Porto Petro enjoys a prime position amongst lush greenery and close to Mondrago National Park, beautiful beaches, fascinating historic sites and some of the island’s top cultural attractions. Just sixty kilometres southeast of Palma, the hotel can be reached with a scenic drive of less than one hour.
Ikos Porto Petro sits between two tranquil coves, the sparkling Mediterranean waters breaking onto rocky shorelines where the air is scented with an evocative blend of salt and pine. In an island abundant with hotels and resorts whose aesthetics ooze traditional Spanish style, this is a luxury retreat for the discerning traveller who prefers architecture that is elevated beyond the norm and sleek with modernity while still paying homage to Spanish heritage. Throughout the hotel you’ll spot tiled flooring, soft neutral tones and wooden furnishings – all culminating in a powerful sense that it exists in harmony with the surrounding nature.
All in all, the hotel is home to five stunning swimming pools, including a kids’ pool and an adults-only pool, as well as sandy beaches that are tucked within hidden coves and dotted with sun loungers. The beaches’ privacy and pristine conditions are truly stunning, and they provide simple access into the shallow waters of the cove, allowing you to gently ease yourself into the magnificent Mediterranean Sea. While the beaches are not exclusive to the resort, their secluded locations mean that they do not see many visitors from outside the resort.

Accommodation
Ikos Porto Petro comprises a variety of luxurious accommodations that seamlessly transition between inside and out. Whether it’s a spacious room, a private suite with a plunge pool or an exclusive bungalow just metres from the shoreline, every option includes premium amenities such as Nespresso coffee machines, 24-hour room service and minibars stocked daily with premium-brand spirits.
The Deluxe Collection of accommodations goes even further, enhancing guests’ experience with additional touches such as privileged locations, champagne on ice, private pools and extra complimentary experiences.
I stayed in one of the 42 square-metre Junior Suites, which include comfortable sitting areas and private balconies with views of either the gardens or pool. With their floor-to-ceiling windows opening out onto glass-pannelled balconies paired with their calming natural tones, there was a lingering feeling of being connected to the natural world outside.

Restaurants & Bars
Dining is the jewel in Ikos Porto Petro’s crown. Included in the hotel’s comprehensive all-inclusive package are six sumptuous restaurants where guests can indulge in a broad array of cuisines including fresh Mediterranean flavours, hearty Italian recipes and aromatic dishes from Thailand. What’s more, these epicurean eateries feature menus curated by Michelin-award-winning chefs and include a wine menu with more than 300 of the finest bottles. The hotel really excels when it comes to wine, and the restaurant sommeliers can help guide you through the process of choosing the perfect wine to complement each meal.
Each restaurant at the hotel is accompanied by some form of entertainment, be it live music, dance groups or theatrical performances, making each meal a memorable experience. Ikos Porto Petro even boasts a pioneering “Dine Out” concept, whereby guests can eat out at a selection of hand-picked restaurants at no extra cost, a thoughtful initiative that helps give back to the island’s local communities.
Also at the hotel are six bars spread across a variety of locales, from a vibrant poolside spot to the sophisticated lobby. At these, guests can savour a selection of signature cocktails and premium liquors as well as a range of other thirst-quenching beverages and bar snacks. Children, meanwhile, will delight in the onsite Gelaterie, which serves a variety of tasty ice creams that will help cool you down.

Service & Hospitality
The service at Ikos Porto Petro is impeccable, and it’s in the finer details where this property truly shines – when I wanted wine by the glass, a fresh bottle was opened each time. Buggies are readily available to whizz you around the hotel and the attentive staff, all of whom have excellent English-speaking skills, endeavour to ensure your every need is met. No request was too much during my stay at the hotel, and it is this stellar hospitality which forms the essence of a luxury holiday – something that Ikos Porto Petro effortlessly champions.
One stand-out element during my stay at the hotel was the exceptional poolside service, where staff members always keep an eye out and really go the extra mile to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, ready to top you up at the clink of an ice cube against an empty glass.

Activities & Experiences
As part of its all-inclusive experience, Ikos Porto Petro offers an array of exciting activities on a complimentary basis. You can refine your serve on one of the three modern tennis courts, explore the crystal Majorcan coast with a selection of water sports equipment including canoes and paddle boards, take part in an invigorating Zumba class or a mindful yoga session, or hire a bicycle to venture further afield and explore the island’s stunning landscape.
Perhaps the most distinct experience available though is the ability for each guest to hire a Tesla for one day of their holiday, enabling them to explore Majorca’s verdant hillsides and charming Mediterranean villages at their own pace. At additional cost, there is also the option to charter a yacht and embark on a private excursion across the beautiful Balearic waters for the ultimate luxury experience.

Spa & Wellness
Along with the hotel’s complimentary fitness and yoga classes, there is also a blissful spa facility for guests to make use of. Tantalising treatments and rejuvenating spa rituals utilise natural oils and nourishing minerals and are available at an extra cost, while access to The Ikos Spa’s sauna, steam bath and swimming pool is free of charge for all guests.
Those staying in one of the Deluxe Collection can enjoy two complimentary neck and back treatments during their stay. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness studio equipped with the latest gym technology.

Family-Friendly Fun
Ikos Porto Petro is a brilliant property for families seeking unforgettable memories in the sultry Mediterranean sun. The kids’ and teens’ clubs arrange daily activities for children aged six months to 17 years, who are supervised by qualified professionals in line with UK Ofsted standards. From tennis lessons and arts and crafts to a children’s swimming pool and cooking classes, younger guests will be kept entertained and engaged throughout their holiday.
The hotel restaurants also feature healthy children’s menus that they will love, with child-friendly dishes that will delight even the fussiest of eaters.
