Saint Lucia 2019 Jazz Festival
Jazz up your Caribbean holiday with The Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, produced in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center! The Caribbean’s premier jazz festival will be gracing the shores of Saint Lucia this May for a week-long celebration, collaborating with New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center for the first time in its 27 year history.
The festival kicks off the wider Saint Lucia Summer Festival, with five unique events celebrating the talent and culture of the island between May and October. Here’s a round-up of what will be going on in Saint Lucia during summer 2019!
The Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, produced in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center: 4 – 12 May
The Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, produced in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center brings together a stellar line-up of world-renowned jazz artists including Christian McBride, Ledisi, Etienne Charles, Russell Hall, and Patrick Bartley acting as artists in-residence throughout the festival. There’ll also be performances by Gregory Porter, members of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and musicians from around the Caribbean. Our highlights?
- Sunday, 5th May: Jazz on the Village with YolanDa Brown, Dianna Phillip and Xtra Luv & Friends
- Thursday, 9th May: Gregory Porter with special guest Ledisi
- Friday, 10th May: Nina and Me, a tribute to legendary jazz singer Nina Simone with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra
- Sunday, 12th May: Gospel Jazz brunch – with brunch included!
Saint Lucia Carnival: June & July
A month-long festival of colour, rhythm and creativity where Calypso, Soca and Steelpan music, along with shows and fetes take centre stage. The whole event ends with a two-day costumed parade.
Saint Lucia Roots & Soul Festival: 23 – 25 August
This three-day festival – with the main stage taking place on Pigeon Island – welcomes celebrated reggae, R&B, hip hop and soul artists to Saint Lucia. There’ll be performances by 80s soulster Leee John, R&B superstars Ginuwine and Mya and British reggae and pop legends UB40.
Saint Lucia Food and Rum Festival: 19 – 22 September
Treat your taste-buds at this festival showcasing the very best of Saint Lucia’s culinary and rum heritage. A number of award-winning chefs will be creating dishes inspired by the island’s unique cuisine, derived from French, British, African and Indian heritage.
Creole Heritage Month: October
Discover Saint Lucia’s rich cultural, ethnic and artistic heritage during this month-long festival filled with cultural expressions from art, music, cuisine and beyond! The festival culminates on the last Sunday of the month with a Jounen Kwéyòl/ Creole day.
