For the majority of Americans the 4th July Independence Day celebrations are a family affair, with barbecues, local parades and fireworks. But there are many towns in the US that celebrate this day in absolute style. Here are our top five picks:
It’s all about the fireworks. Taking place over the Hudson River, this firework extravaganza beats most New Year’s shows. You can see the the spectacle from Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens, you just need to make sure the East River is visible.
2. San Diego
The firework display to watch out for here is The Big Bay Boom. It’s the largest in the country, with fireworks discharged simultaneously from barges. The best viewing areas are Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Embarcadero North, Seaport Village, Embarcadero South Marina Park and the Coronado Ferry Landing.
3. Las Vegas
We all know that Las Vegas is the place to be if you want a good time, so if it’s a party atmosphere you’re after, this is the place to be. There are plenty of pool parties to enjoy; the perfect way to cool off in the desert heat.
The Nation’s Capital knows how to put on a show. Starting with a parade on the National Mall, then onto a concert with the National Symphony Orchestra, and finishing with a flourish of fireworks over the city’s spectacular historic monuments.
Not only is there a firework show to watch, there is also a live musical accompaniment to the display by the Boston Pops. You can either stay on the riverbank for the day, or hop aboard a dinner cruise of Boston Harbour to get a close up look of the tall ships and an incredible view for the show.
