From cocoa plantation for those chocoholics and malls for those shopaholics to art for those who are looking for culture – this is our guide to shopping and culture in Saint Lucia.
JQ Rodney Bay Mall
Ideally located within a stone’s throw of the picturesque Rodney Bay Marina, the JQ Rodney Bay Mall boasts over fifty stores and restaurants, including designer clothes boutiques, beauty salons, delis and a spacious supermarket. Whether you’re looking to pick up some beachwear, grab a bite to eat or browse one of the high range jewellery shops, Saint Lucia’s premier shopping mall makes for the perfect stop-off.
Eudovic’s Art Studio
Established in 1975, Eudovic’s Art Studio in the island’s northwestern region is dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary wood carving skills of local artist Joseph Eudovic. The gallery displays some of his finest creations, all of which use local wood – such as the now extinct Laurier Canelle. Joseph still sources this wood via old stumps in the forests, as well as mahogany, teak and both red and white cedar. You can check out his and other wood sculptors’ work by paying a visit to the gallery, with a selection of artefacts also available for sale from the adjoining boutique – perfect for picking up a holiday souvenir.
Tour the Hotel Chocolat cocoa plantation
The luxurious boutique Boucan by Hotel Chocolat is set in the midst of the vast Rabot Estate, which is Saint Lucia’s oldest cocoa plantation, making it the perfect destination for lovers of fine chocolate who are interested in the process behind the creation of their favourite treat.
The hotel offers a unique “Tree-to-Bar Experience” which lets visitors trace the various stages of chocolate production, from growing and harvesting the cocoa pods, to drying, grinding and mixing the chocolate, while in the company of an expert guide.
Stroll through the estate’s lush cocoa groves in the shadow of the dramatic Pitons, choose your cocoa pods, and finally, craft your own delicious chocolate bar to savour as you unwind in this breath-taking setting. It’s a brilliant experience for foodies and luxury lovers alike.
