About Volcano House

For those looking to experience Hawaii’s wilder side, look no further than this uniquely positioned national park hotel. Located inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park the Volcano House Hotel overlooks the crater rim of the mighty Kiluea volcano, site of the longest known eruption on Earth which started in 1983 and continues today. By day guests have the perfect location to explore the park’s many delights like the Jagger Museum, the sulphur banks and the Thurston lava tube. Join a guided hike or take advantage of the hotel’s bicycles, available to rent free of charge.

What really sets this hotel apart is the experience guests discover once darkness falls. The steam and gasses from the erupting volcano reflect the glowing lava below creating a spectacular and awe-inspiring light show. With just 33 rooms we recommend guests book in early, and after a couple of nights here head north to a coastal resort hotel to see a different side to the island. For dinner the hotel is home to The Rim, where locally sourced ingredients are carefully prepared and served against the stunning backdrop of the billowing volcano. For a casual drink and some light bites head to George’s Lounge.
Rooms are attractively furnished in a traditional Hawaiian style. They do not have TVs but with so much to see outside these are hardly missed. Upgrade to a Volcano Crater View Room for spectacular views of this natural wonder.
