Zeavola Resort Phi Phi Island Review

A few steps from the powder-white sands of northern Phi Phi Don and it’s as though you’ve teleported to a jungle somewhere in South America. Leafy green trees provide shelter from the sweltering sun and friendly staff are quick to supply cool, crisp hand towels and a tasty berry-red welcome drink.

Kick off your shoes – you won’t need them here. Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi seems to have coined the term “barefoot luxury”. It’s an unusual Thai resort, close enough to the beach, yet so enshrouded by the buzz of nature that you could easily forget where exactly you are.

Why we recommend the Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi – Eco-friendly with a personal touch

"It’s a green hotel. Having won the Green Pearl® Award, the hotel practises responsible tourism by recycling greywater, using energy-saving lighting, composting, and supporting conservational efforts such as the Green Fins and Coral Freedom projects."

"The General Manager is hands-on, friendly and always around for a chat, while the extremely talented spa therapists are some of the best we have encountered on our travels."

Best for… nature lovers

A network of sandy pathways connect the reception area, luxury spa, restaurants and rustic wooden chalets which all have an emphasis on the outdoors – expect open-air bathrooms and outdoor spaces hidden from your neighbours by the privacy of tall green foliage.

As a resort that focuses on nature as the main attraction, the buildings are minimalistic and you can expect a few insects or two in your room. If you’re icky about insects and don’t like the idea of being so close to nature, then perhaps this resort isn’t the one for you. But for those who enjoy getting back to basics, this barefoot luxury resort doesn’t disappoint.

Where is Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi located?

You'll find this resort located in the north of Phi Phi Don Island, surrounded by lush green foliage and in close proximity to the golden sands of the island. It can be reached by ferry and longboat.

Attractions near Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi

  • Meet the residents of Monkey Bay - You'll find white sands, clear waters and mischievous monkeys hanging around this small cove that's accessible via a long-tail boat or sea kayak. Enjoy watching the monkeys from afar, as they climb up the rocky areas of the cove or catch crabs for their dinner, but don't feed them and don't stray too close as they've been known to bite and scratch.
  • Head to Hat Yao for snorkelling - While there's no end of opportunity to see more of the underwater world around Phi Phi, Hat Yao is considered to be one of the best spots for snorkelling. It's a fantastic day trip, just grab your mask and swimsuit and dive into the water to spot everything from vibrant clownfish to black-tipped sharks.
  • Take a trip to the Viking Caves - Inside these caves, you'll spot intricate chalk drawings of Viking longboats that are believed to have been made by pirates seeking refuge inside. You'll need to hire a longboat and driver to get up close – long-tail boat drivers are available at the beach right outside the resort 24 hours a day and you can usually barter with them for a good price. Don't forget your camera!

Rooms and accommodation

While the chalets offer all the mod cons you’d need – king-sized beds, indoor or outdoor bathrooms and air-conditioning – you’ll be spending most of your time outside of your room, cooling off in the resort swimming pool, learning to dive just off-shore or treating yourself to a traditional Thai massage at the award-winning Zeavola Spa.

For those looking to escape it all and enjoy some much-needed privacy one of the four Pool Villa Suites is the ideal choice. The Pool Villas are located high up on the hillside away from the beach. Prepare for a bit of a climb to reach your room. The two Beachfront Suites are located right on the sands of the beach with their own direct beach access. They are also close to the pool.

What to do & where to eat at Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi

Want to know what there is to do at this resort besides lounging on the sand – although we definitely don't think there's anything wrong with doing just that! Take a look at our short round-up of some of our favourite features and activities here:

Wine and dine at Tacada

The resort's main restaurant serves up Italian dishes and fresh seafood in a laidback manner. We love the openness of this dining experience, with tables set out in the warm air and an array of tempting dishes being cooked all day, from 10am until 10pm.

Sign up for a Thai cooking class

Cook up a storm with this cooking class held by one of the resort’s talented chefs. This session teaches you the skills you need to create your own delicious dishes, providing all the ingredients and guiding you step-by-step. Learn how to master the art of cooking a hot and sour Tom Yum Kung soup or a delicious Gang Kiew Wan Kai – a sensational green chicken curry.

Go night diving

See the underwater world in a whole new way with a nighttime excursion, arranged by the resort. Play around in the magical bioluminescence in the waters, created by sea creatures that only come out after dark and look out for the telltale flashes of squids as they lurk in the deep below.

Good to know

Try the Sun Soother Body Wrap – the yoghurt and cucumber remedy is a great way to relieve sunburn after a day on the beach. We’d recommend adding on a facial and foot treatment to complete the pamper package!
