Holidays to Bali sit at the top of bucket lists for both solo travellers and families alike. Whether you’re the swimwear and sunbathing sort or head out and hiking type, a trip to this slice of paradise in Indonesia will never disappoint. Opt for a resort in the south, close to the capital of Denpasar for the perfect blend of Balinese culture and modern city living. Alternatively, head to the south-east coastline where you can plan your trip to Bali around the spectacular Nusa Dua Light Festival whilst also enjoying the stunning beaches nearby.

Bali Holidays Travel Information

There are regular flights from major UK airports into Denpasar in Bali, but no non-stop journeys.

  • Currency: Indonesian Rupiah
  • Time difference: GMT +7
  • Flight time from the UK: 19-22 hours is typical
  • Airport Information: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is the only commercial airport in Bali. Transfers to southern beach resorts are quick (around 1 hour) and Ubud can be reached in 2-3 hours dependent on traffic
  • Visa: Visa on Arrival (US$35 payable by cash/card)
  • Language: Bahasa Indonesian & English is widely spoken, but Balinese is the native language
  • Getting around: Transportation is easily available for local journeys - either metered or by negotiation in advance
  • Weather: Wondering when to visit Bali? The dryer months to visit are from May - October, with the main rainfall occurring December - February after which the paddy fields of Ubud and interior of Bali can be a vibrant green!
  • Multicentres: Although Ubud is only a short (1-2 hour) journey from most beach resorts in the south of Bali, we recommend a stay in the cultural heart of Bali to truly get a handle on the incredible culture of this beautiful island! You can also combine with a stay on the quieter and calmer beaches of northern Bali or the beautiful Bali Barat National Park in Menjangan, North West Bali
  • Hotel check in/check out times: Vary from hotel to hotel, but tend to allow check-in from 16:00 and check-out at 11:00. Please check with your consultant for specific times, and they can advise late check-out/early check-in rates if required. Most hotels will store luggage and allow you to use facilities if you would prefer not to do this.
  • National drink: Arak (rice wine) is widely available, but we recommend trying some of the incredible local fresh fruit juices
  • National dish: Nasi Goreng is the national dish of Indonesia, but there are many Balinese specialities like Babli Guling (Roast Suckling Pig)
