Holidays to Antigua are designed around you, meaning you can do as little or as much as you wish. The island is ripe for adventure, though, and it would be a shame to spend the entirety of your getaway under a sun umbrella. Explore the world beneath the waves on an organised scuba diving or snorkelling trip, go kayaking between the islands, take a 4x4 island discovery tour, visit Nelson's Dockyard, or hike deep into the rainforest in search of tropical plants and animals.

As you'd expect, seafood is important in Antigua, with fresh local catches served daily. Cooking from around the world influences Antiguan cuisine, and you'll be able to sample French dining, Italian home cooking, and American dishes alongside Caribbean fare, including the traditional fungie and pepper pot for which the island is famed. Dining out will be something of a cultural experience; make sure you check out the tasty fare served by street vendors along your way, too.

Antigua is strikingly beautiful, and you'll want to spend as much time as you can enjoying its warming sun and soft breezes. Walk up to Shirley Heights, the 18th-century fort, and see the stunning coastal views from the top. You could go on a hiking trip on Great Bird Island to see the tropical birds; one of the best reefs in Antigua is located there, so you could take the opportunity to go snorkelling. Visit the North Sound Marine Park and kayak among the lush mangrove inlets.
