Activities in South Africa

The number one holiday activity in South Africa is going on safari to view the world-renowned Big Five animals - leopard, lion, rhino, buffalo and elephant. On the coast, take a boat to see whales and great white sharks or take diving lessons to get close to marine life. Water sports are extremely popular and there are many opportunities to jet-ski, parasail and water-ski as well as to enjoy more leisurely water-based activities, such as sunset sailing and catamaran cruises.

Food and Drink in South Africa

While beer is the national drink, South African wines are world-famous. With a great climate for plenty of grapes, the country is most known for its Pinotage wines. Try some local specialties while you're here, such as Babotie (an upmarket Shepherd's Pie) and Boerewors, a farm sausage cooked on a South African braai (woold-fire barbeque). If you're feeling adventurous, try some game meats, such as kudu or ostrich, and dare to taste some Mopani worms, an unusual African delicacy.
