Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom
The day begins with a visit to Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most spectacular manmade wonders and considered the largest religious structure across the planet. Angkor Wat lies within the crumbling ruins of Angkor, the former capital of the Khmer Empire. As you explore the vast grounds, you’ll learn how the Khmer Empire reached its apogee between the 9th and 13th centuries while strolling through intricately carved archways which display hundreds of fine carvings. As you wander, you might spot local monks doing the same; Angkor Wat is today home to small shrines which are used by local Cambodians.
After your visit to Angkor Wat, you’ll return to Siem Reap for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to Angkor Thom, which translates from the Khmer language as “Great City”. This ancient royal city of the Khmer Empire is home to the Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform where the king would welcome back his victorious army following one of their conquests, while the Terrace of the Leper King holds detailed carvings which wind along a narrow passageway leading to the Baphuon complex, another ancient archaeological site. Following this eye-opening tour, you will return to your hotel in Siem Reap for dinner.

Ta Prohm & Banteay Srei
Rise early – around 05:30 – and set out for Angkor Wat for what is sure to be one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets you’ll ever witness, as the crimson sun tinges the horizon and floats above the ornate towers of the ruins of Angkor.
After this indelible experience, you will venture to Ta Prohm, considered one of Angkor’s most beautiful temples. Engulfed by overgrown fig trees whose roots latch onto the structures, Ta Prohm is a scene that is utterly enchanting and evocative of a “forgotten city”. Afterwards, you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant before heading to the Banteay Srei temple in the afternoon. Translated as “The Citadel of the Women” or “Citadel of Beauty”, Banteay Srei is one of Angkor’s most significant structures, its well-preserved stone walls decorated with elaborate carvings. Dating to the 10th century, Banteay Srei is cut from red sandstone that bears a pinkish hue and was originally built in honour of the Hindu god Shiva. Following your visit to Banteay Srei, you will return to your hotel for dinner.

Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Artisans Angkor & Departure
In the morning, you will visit Preah Khan (“Sacred Sword”), a majestic structure dedicated to the Buddhist religion by King Jayavarman VII. This enormous complex of temples is also smothered by trees, whose roots wrap themselves around the sandstone and laterite walls. Afterwards, you will explore Neak Pean, an artificial island in Preah Khan Baray with a Buddhist temple at its centre.
You will then return to your hotel to check out and, if time permits, visit Artisans Angkor, a local company created to help young people in rural Cambodia find work near their home villages by training them in traditional Cambodian arts and crafts such as silk fabrics and garments, stone and wood carving, lacquerware and silk painting.
In the afternoon/evening, you will be transferred to the airport to begin your onward journey.
