Muchenje Safari Lodge is located just a five minute drive from the Ngoma Gate, allowing easy access into Chobe National Park – one of Botswana’s most diverse national parks. Chobe Riverfront tends to be busy but somehow Muchenje manages to remain relatively quiet with great game viewing along the secluded river roads. There’s exceptional wildlife to be found in the park, particularly large herds of elephant, as well as hippo, crocodile, leopard, lion and wild dog. Set within the Chobe Forest, this owner-run and managed lodge has all the comforts of home in the middle of the African bush. It consists of a main area - a thatched split-level building with canvas walls that are often rolled up to enjoy the views – along with a central bar, communal dining table for guests and a fire pit where you can enjoy sundowners. Just 11 thatched cottages, one of which is a family unit that sleeps four, means the lodge is never crowded.
What we love about Muchenje is that it is incredibly relaxed and your stay can be personalised to suit you. Activities are flexible, meaning you can get up at dawn for a nature walk or early morning game drive, or sleep in a bit and enjoy breakfast a bit later. Feeling adventurous? Why not try a walking safari to see elephants on foot or a night drive to see nocturnal wildlife such as porcupine, genet and civet. Kids will love the Young Explorer programs while the excursions to Muchenje Village to meet the locals is truly authentic. The busy town of Kasane is just 45 minutes down the road and if you feel like exploring further afield, Victoria Falls is just a two hours away.
