La Plume Guesthouse

The La Plume Guest House hotel, located in the tranquil Olifantsrivier Valley of South Africa, is a Victorian style hotel providing accommodation for up to twelve parties at a time. It has been in existence since 1902, and the running of the guest house has been passed down through four generations of family. The fact it is family-run, and very much on the small side, reflects the personalised service it intends to provide. It is a few miles from the town of Outdshoorn, making the atmosphere very quiet and calm – but only a short journey from a large town, an aspect some visitors find very attractive. The La Plume Guest House is unique in that it is in fact a working ostrich farm – as may be expected, one of the house specialities in the kitchen is cooked ostrich; former guests can confirm it is of the best quality they have ever tasted. The owner will happily give tours of the farm to those who are interested. The staff at the hotel are helpful and attentive, and speak very good English. This is particularly useful if you are a first time visitor to SouthAfrica. The decor in the various areas of the hotel is traditional and stylish, giving it a warm and homely feel. The surrounding hotel grounds are beautiful, and many guests enjoy having a quiet stroll through them, or relaxing at the heated pool. Dedicated gardeners keep the outdoors in supreme condition.
