The lodge is set in the lush Catarpe Valley around 3 kms from the centre of the nearby village of San Pedro de Atacama. The lodge has a strong empathise on suitability and connecting with the local culture and environment. The lodge runs 30 excursions from mountain biking to early morning vehicle trips to geysers all of which are run by expertly trained local guides.

The Alto Atacama Lodge and Spa has a total of 42 rooms and is located just outside the nearby village of San Pedro de Atacama. The lodge is all inclusive for both meals and excursions, and you decide which excursions you would like to take after you have arrived. The lodge encourages its guests to get off the beaten track and explore the surrounding area by foot or bike, while there are also vehicle based excursions. The night sky is incredibly clear in the Atacama desert and taking a stargazing excursion, is highly recommended. The hotel also has a restaurant and spa.
