Additional documents required by tourists
If you enter the Schengen area as a tourist, you may need to
provide additional documents at the border. As well as a valid return or onward
ticket, when travelling to Spain you could be asked to show:
You have enough money for your stay
- Proof of accommodation for your stay, for example:
- A hotel booking confirmation
- Proof of address if visiting your own property (such as
second home)
- An invitation or proof of address if staying with a third
party, friends or family, such as a ‘carta de invitation’ completed by your
hosts.
New Schengen entry requirements
From October 2025, the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) started for all non-EU nationals, including British nationals, travelling in or out of the Schengen area. The Schengen area is made up of 29 European countries, 25 of which are EU Member States. The EES is a digital border system which registers non-EU visitors travelling into the Schengen area instead of stamping their passports.
You will need to have your fingerprints and your photo taken when entering the Schengen area. If you enter the Schengen area through Dover, Eurotunnel at Folkestone or St Pancras International, your fingerprints and photo will be taken before you leave the UK. You will also need to provide either your fingerprint or photo on exit.
You may experience longer queues at borders when the new system starts.

Passport, Visas and Local Taxes
Your specific passport and visa requirements, and other immigration requirements are your responsibility, and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates. We cannot accept responsibility if you cannot travel because you have not complied with any passport, visa or immigration requirements.
The Spanish Government has introduced the Climate Resilience Tax, payable locally upon check-out by the customer. This tax does not form part of your holiday package as we are not able to collect this at time of booking.
