Mauritius is an Indian Ocean island holiday paradise destination with plenty for visitors to do. The interior has tall peaks and dense rainforests, and the impressive Black River Gorges National Park. The park has hiking trails, waterfalls and fascinating flora and fauna. There are offshore reefs for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. From the lovely lagoons to the very edges of its sandy beaches, this is an island begging to be explored.
Port Louis is the capital and the city has a good market and the Champs de Mars horse-racing course. There is also a delightful botanical garden created in the 18th century. The waterfront area has recently undergone restoration work and is now more appealing. The main resort areas of the island are Riviere Noire (sport fishing), the lively Flic en Flac (scuba), the quieter Trou-aux-Biches and Mont Choisy.
